Over the last few years, I have had the honor to work with first responders, prior military, and their families to manage and heal from the disabling effects of trauma. This work expanded my career into the spaces of addiction, men’s issues, sexual trauma, grief and loss, and shame to name a few. Though this work I found a passion for working with relationships in trouble.

Many of the clients I see are seeking counseling to improve communication skills and increase enjoyment and connectedness in their relationships. Clients who work with me often need help working through relationship betrayals and hurts that inevitably happen in relationships, but that can leave you feeling stuck. I use therapeutic modalities that help couples and individuals move past relationship patterns that no longer serve them into more stable ways of functioning.

Marriage and family therapy has been the focus of my training in my schooling and professional career. I use this approach (systems approach) to assist my individual, couple, and family clients. During my career I have had the opportunity to work at a hospital, school, and the court system, which all helped prepare me for private practice. I look forward to helping your family reach their goals in a holistic way.

You may feel like you’re carrying old stories in your body—patterns shaped by family, faith, trauma, relationships, addiction, or the roles you learned to play. Maybe you’re tired of managing life from your head, trying to think your way into peace while your body keeps telling you the truth you’ve avoided. I work with individuals and couples who want relief, clarity, and a way back to themselves while deepening connection in their relationships. They want to stop running from discomfort and begin building a life that feels aligned, grounded, and free.

Have you ever thought – what distinguishes healthy relationships that are able to thrive from unhealthy ones that tend to be full of stress? Is it self-will? Determination? As a couples and family therapist, I believe the one distinguishing factor is "attachment". Attachment is the ability to connect with others. Depending on our ability (or inability) to attach interpersonally, determines the overall satisfaction we experience within our intimate relationships. Also, having been a victim of racism, I opened this practice as a place that people of color can heal from the impact of both blatant and systemic oppression.

Spirituality Therapists
What should I expect from therapy that incorporates a focus on spirituality?
Spirituality can mean different things to different individuals, depending on their experiences, beliefs, and life histories. Some individuals focus on strengthening their belief system, while others experience spirituality in secular ways, such as through meditation, yoga, or by spending time in nature. Clients can expect a therapist to help guide and grow their spirituality through any of these techniques, encouraging the individual to cope with the challenges they face and develop strategies to build resilience and purpose to improve their outlook in life.
What are the most common treatments that include spirituality?
There are several treatments that incorporate spirituality. Mindfulness-based cognitive therapy (MBCT) helps a person examine and reframe their negative thoughts and behaviors. Acceptance and commitment therapy (ACT) focuses on emotional acceptance and psychological flexibility. Existential therapy is most often used to address anxiety, depression, grief, loneliness, apathy, despair, questions of identity, and feelings of purposelessness and existential dread. Transpersonal therapy focuses on a client’s spirituality and meaning in life and may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork.
Can therapy incorporating spirituality help atheistic or agnostic individuals?
Yes. For non-believers, spirituality can offer benefits including a greater sense of connection to others and to the natural world. An interest in spirituality may also spur individuals to pursue mindfulness practices, or to contemplate their purpose in life and how to achieve it.
How effective is spirituality as a therapeutic remedy?
Research suggests spirituality is generally beneficial for individuals. It is correlated with better health habits, such as less substance use, and an improved capacity to cope with stress and other mental health challenges. Increased spirituality can lead individuals to become more empathic and less materialistic, as well.
