Hi, I’m Iman. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor Associate, supervised by Charlotte Jackson, LPC-S, with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Texas A&M Central Texas. I believe therapy should feel safe, collaborative, and human — not intimidating or overly clinical. I offer therapy in English, Urdu, and Hindi, so clients can express themselves in a way that feels right for them. Many of the clients I support are navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, self-esteem concerns, identity exploration, or major life transitions, and are looking for a space where they can slow down and be real.

There are moments when you’re drowning in your emotions. Everything hits too hard, too deep, or too raw. One wrong look or delayed text sends you spiraling because you’re terrified of being abandoned or discarded. Rage flares and then disappears, leaving guilt in its place. You say things you don’t mean, then drown in anxiety and shame for saying them. It’s exhausting to live in a body that feels unsafe and a mind that never slows down. You’ve worked on it, but you still feel like you’re too much or not enough. You’re tired of the shame, overwhelm, and chaos, but you’re starting to think that real healing might not be possible.

After 7 years as a teacher and school counselor, I now serve as a Licensed Professional Counselor. My background is founded on a passion for working with teens, guiding them as they navigate the tumultuous period of adolescence. I offer a safe, non-judgmental place to support personal growth. Older adolescents are offered more privileges in privacy; however, I ensure that parents remain frequently updated and well-informed. Play therapy is also my passion—a research-based modality for working with younger children.

You have made the brave decision to seek support and you are worth it. Meeting with a therapist can be intimidating; it requires strength and vulnerability. We are imperfectly human and we deserve to work towards honest self-acceptance, empowerment, and esteem in a safe place. Anxiety, codependence, depression, grief, isolation, and feelings of powerlessness can leave us exhausted and at a loss for answers. It can be easy to forget that we deserve "to be loved, and to feel worthwhile" (W. Glasser). I invite you to remember that when experiencing stress. It would be an honor to be witness to the growth of your self love.

At times in life, we all can feel lost, disconnected, or overwhelmed by challenges that once felt manageable. You may find yourself struggling with emotions, patterns, or questions that leave you feeling confused or unsure of how to move forward. When this happens, having the support of an attuned and compassionate therapist can make a profound difference. Healing often begins within a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship—one where you feel seen, respected, and understood. In this kind of space, it becomes possible to explore old wounds, develop new ways of understanding, and gradually rebuild trust in yourself.

My name is Shalanda, owner of TookesWilder Guidance. As a retired military spouse (24 years) and mother of four, I have been through many life and career transitions that can be stress and anxiety provoking. I see many women and they all come in with similar issues. So, I devote myself to encouraging and empowering women from the career moms to the stay at home moms. The biggest problem is we think self-care is selfish, but how can we take care of our loved ones if we are not taking care of ourselves?

Women's Issues Therapists
How do you encourage a woman to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual may be suffering, and what effects it has on them, should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can women prepare for therapy?
Women can prepare for therapy by being willing to talk about their past experiences and their private thoughts. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. Between sessions, it can be useful to write down notes about their reaction to a given event or how they felt at a particular time.

How long does therapy for women’s issues often last?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual and the challenges they face. Therapy types like Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), Prolonged exposure therapy (PET), and Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR) can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. In some cases, such as for women with eating disorders, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.

How can women overcome stigma around specific challenges in order to seek therapy?
Women dealing with domestic abuse, sexual assault, eating disorders, and any other number of troubles may feel a stigma around seeking help. It’s important to remember that these issues are not uncommon and there is no shame in getting help for them. Therapy is confidential, and women can talk about their experiences without fear of judgment. Seeking therapy can be a courageous and liberating act, and an important step toward healing and recovery.
