Maybe you’re trying to balance faith, culture, family expectations, and your own growth. You don’t just want coping skills — you want clarity, steadiness, and real change.

My ideal clients are children, adolescents, and adults who feel emotionally overloaded, stuck, or unsure why life feels harder than it “should.” Adults may live in a near-constant state of stress, self-doubt, or disconnection. Parents may feel responsible for everyone’s emotions while quietly ignoring their own. Children and teens may struggle to regulate feelings they don’t yet have words for. Across ages, clients are often insightful, capable, and exhausted, seeking understanding rather than quick fixes.

Mental illness lives. Anxiety lives. OCD lives. Addiction lives. Depression lives. Imagine millions of people around the universe waking up with the same dark, aching places you promised you’d never talk about. I’ve noticed how quick we are, as human beings, to push aside the most meaningful parts of our lives. Let’s not push aside the things that need to be talked about. Let’s bring mental illness to the light. The worst thing we can do is ignore it. It exists and it easily consumes. So if you’re struggling right now my role is to listen, discern your strengths and vulnerabilities, and invite growth as you place trust in my care.

I work with individual adults, couples, families, and children (ages 3 - 10) and together we curate helpful ways to cope with everyday life and relationships. I encourage clients to focus on their inner strengths and make choices that bring them closer to their goals. I believe our thoughts, behaviors, values, and beliefs begin in our early years within our families of origin. These years, along with the life experiences and challenges we encounter along the way serve to shape us. Uncovering how these thoughts and behaviors impact our daily life is an important step toward healing, change, and freedom.

Hi, I am Macquenie Palmer-Beckford. If you’ve been feeling exhausted no matter how much you sleep, constantly overthinking every little thing, or struggling just to get through the day, you’re not alone. Maybe you’ve been feeling on edge, shut down, or stuck in a fog that you can’t seem to shake. You keep showing up, holding it together for everyone else but inside, you’re running on empty.
Maybe you’ve caught yourself thinking, “I don’t even feel like myself anymore.” The things that used to make you happy don’t hit the same. You want to get back to feeling “normal,” but you don’t even know where to start.

Life feels out of sync and you are ready for a tangible change. Having spent years providing intensive, in-home family therapy for all ages, I know that challenges don't happen in a vacuum. I recently started my own practice to move away from large agencies and work one-on-one with individuals at their own pace in a more intimate setting. In our sessions, we won't just sit and nod. I am an active, engaged therapist who balances deep empathy with direct feedback to help you build a concrete toolkit.

From the outside, your life looks put together. Careers are steady, responsibilities handled, and everything seems “fine.” But at home, conversations feel tense, disagreements repeat, and one person often feels unheard while the other feels criticized or shut down. Whether it’s between partners or within your family, the emotional distance grows — even though everyone is trying and genuinely cares. Many high-functioning couples and families I work with experience this hidden stress daily, feeling like connection is slipping despite their best efforts.

Something’s happened. It was a big, terrible, life-changing event. Or maybe it was a million little things that added up to everything just being hard and heavy all the time. You try to avoid reminders, but sometimes you just can’t. The memories flood your thoughts, wash through your emotions, and weigh down your body. Your relationships are suffering. It’s difficult to focus. Your mind, heart, and body are just not at ease. Swinging between autopilot and survival mode feels out of control. You just want to be able to act on your values.

Parent-Child Interaction (PCIT) Therapists
Does parent-child interaction therapy (PCIT) work?
PCIT is an evidence-based treatment that has been shown to be effective across domains, including for children with behavioral problems, those on the autism spectrum, and those who have experienced early childhood trauma. Further, studies have found that the skills developed through PCIT benefit not only the child in therapy but also siblings, as the parent internalizes lessons learned in sessions and is able to incorporate them into interactions with other family members.
How long does PCIT last?
The duration of treatment depends on the specific challenges clients face. Sessions are typically 60 to 90 minutes long, and treatment lasts, on average, between 12 and 20 sessions. Factors that influence treatment duration include how regularly a client attends treatment, how much progress is achieved between sessions, the particular skills that need development, and the extent to which the parent and therapist see improvement.
Can PCIT be done online?
PCIT is among the therapy types best suited for video sessions. Therapists are able to communicate with parents with essentially the same ease, and by observing the parent and child at home in their normal environment, the therapist may gain additional insight into their interactions, as the child will have their normal toys and may feel more comfortable and act more naturally than they would in a therapist’s room.
Does PCIT help parents?
In addition to the skills parents develop through the treatment, PCIT has also been shown to reduce frustration, stress, and depression in parents and promote confidence and a sense of calm when dealing with their children. The desired outcomes of PCIT include a reduction in defiant and aggressive behavior by children and an improvement in communicating their feelings productively, complying with parental instruction, and behaving according to parents’ rules. Growth in these areas can be a relief for parents.
