My approach involves honesty, humor, and evidence-based techniques like Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and more.
Discomfort is the beginning of all change. Embarking on a journey of change can be a bit uncomfortable, but it's also the first step toward creating the positive transformation you seek in your life. As an LPC-A, I'm here to support you and guide you through this process. Congratulations on taking that step! You're now closer to feeling empowered and becoming the best version of yourself. That's definitely something to be proud of in this moment. When you are ready, my goal is to walk alongside you as you face, process, and grow through the challenges you're experiencing.

Unfortunately we live in a hectic and fast paced world. At times things can be overwhelming, often feeling negative and hopeless that change will ever occur. I have worked with clients struggling with depression, social anxiety, mood disorders and self-esteem issues sort out their own darkest and deepest moments. We all have bridges to cross and at times reaching out to a health care professional is the first step. Allow me to be that stepping stone for you.......

My passion is to help you uproot your trauma rather than just treat symptoms (which can often feel unhelpful and frustrating long-term). I frequently work with complex trauma/complex PTSD, insecure attachment patterns, LGBTQIA+ identities, ADHD, and Autism. Clients often come to me feeling "stuck", deeply misunderstood, repeating painful patterns, having had negative therapy experiences in the past, feeling like "nothing works", and have a history of intellectualizing their feelings. It is my goal to help you work through your trauma, navigate your identity, and feel more present and safe in your every day life.

Your emotions feel like they could take up an entire ocean, a burden that feels too heavy to carry. On paper you are compassionate and high achieving, but underneath you feel self-critical, anxious, lonely, or broken. It is hard to trust people and show up as your true self, and your relationships feel overwhelming. Like you’ll make a mistake and lose it all or get too close for people to see the real you. Anxiety prevails in your day to day life, telling you that you have to do things perfectly or else people will find out that you don't actually have it all together.

Do you have trouble separating your needs from the expectations of others? Is it easier to gaslight yourself than end an unhealthy relationship? Are most of your decisions based upon a fear of being rejected or disappointing others? Do you suspect that you’re holding back in most of your platonic and romantic relationships? Like most people, you have probably tried to manage things on your own. You may have the common fear that if you open up to others, you will be a burden. Or, you have been taught from a young age that you must avoid appearing "weak" at all costs.

As a therapist for teens and emerging adults, I am driven by the desire to create a safe and non-judgmental space where young individuals can freely express their thoughts, emotions, and concerns. I understand that this age group often faces unique issues such as identity formation, peer pressure, academic stress, family conflicts, and the challenges of transitioning into adulthood. By building a strong therapeutic alliance, I aim to empower my clients to explore their feelings, develop coping strategies, and enhance their self-esteem.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
