Therapy can feel intimidating, especially in the beginning. I believe it's vital to build a collaborative and authentic relationship with all of my clients. In treatment, I primarily utilize a Gestalt theoretical perspective - this means I focus on increasing clients’ awareness and self-understanding, so they are better able to navigate life’s difficulties in ways that feel genuine to them. I also enjoy integrating mindfulness techniques and client interests (art, film, gaming...you name it) into work with clients of all ages. My specialties include anxiety, trauma, and management of chronic illness.

Do you ever find yourself struggling to understand yourself or others? Experiences can shape who we believe ourselves to be without us even recognizing the impact of it all, often skewing our perceptions of our true self. Our situations and relationships can also leave us feeling hurt, disappointed, angry, confused, out of control, unmotivated, and so much more. I understand how difficult and uncomfortable it is to feel conflicting emotions simultaneously. I absolutely enjoy working with people of all walks of life to help build mindfulness, a deeper sense of self and clarity and peace amid whatever issues you may be facing.

Our struggles don't exist in a vacuum, and neither does healing. I believe the stories we tell ourselves matter. Together, we'll uncover the beliefs and narratives that may no longer serve you and begin writing a new story—one that aligns with the life, relationships, and family you want to build. Along the way, we'll find creative ways to help you express yourself, process difficult experiences, and reconnect with your sense of self. My hope is to help you see that you are more than the pain you've experienced or the stories you've inherited.

We all wish life’s journey could be an easy one, but the reality is the path is not always smooth. Life can be filled with uncertainty, conflict, and hard choices. No matter what your age, there are times when life can leave you feeling lost. The good news is that this journey does not have to be faced alone. With a focus on compassion, connection, and what is developmentally appropriate, I can provide support and guidance through these challenges. Whether you are an adult, child, teen, parent, or whole family, I am able to help. I consider it a great privilege to be allowed to walk with people on their life's journey.

Adoption Therapists
Does my adopted child need therapy?
Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.
When should adoptive parents seek therapy?
Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.
Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?
Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.
What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?
A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
