Everyday people are faced with a variety of life challenges such as anxiety, depression, loss, career decisions and relational issues. These challenges can be both expected and unexpected. We try to prepare for the trials of life but no matter how much we try, at times we may still feel unequipped. We all want to feel supported, heard, and ready to face all the experiences of life.

Welcome! I want to honor your courage in taking the first step toward your journey of healing and understanding yourself. I strive to create a safe, supportive space where you can feel comfortable showing up as your authentic self. I often use cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT), which focuses on noticing and reshaping unhelpful thought patterns. This approach is practical and collaborative; you’ll learn strategies and gain knowledge that can help you feel more in control of your emotions and choices.

My therapeutic focus centers on reconciliation—the process of healing through restoring harmony within oneself and in relationships with others. Healing often unfolds as we learn to recognize and transform our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. I believe we are all works in progress, continuously evolving as life’s circumstances shift and change. I strive to provide a safe, nurturing, and nonjudgmental space where individuals can freely express themselves and explore their inner experiences. Through this process of understanding self and others, meaningful shifts in perspective and emotional clarity often emerge.

I am not the mythical King Midas; everything he touched turned to gold. I am not a graffiti artist, trying to paint a happy face on something that sees itself as worthless. I am a custodian, wiping the debris off one of inestimable value. Assisting each client to recognize this value, and to use the resources available to become fully alive, fully human, and fully free as soon as possible, is my main goal.

I view life as a journey, and while at times we all get caught up in the storms of uncertainty, disappointment, hopelessness that cause us great pain there are opportunities for change. People are often in need of help because they want a place that provides safety, security, and hope. I help explore new options to resolve problems. I make every effort to provide my patients with a safe place to talk about their problems, hopes, and dreams, while striving to be a light for them when they are in the darkness of despair.

Everyone thinks you’re doing fine, but underneath you’re exhausted. You may be successful at work, showing up for your family, and handling life’s responsibilities while privately struggling with anxiety, overthinking, burnout, people-pleasing, relationship challenges, or the emotional changes that come with midlife and menopause. Many of my clients are high-functioning women who are tired of carrying everything alone and want to feel more confident, connected, and at peace. You don’t have to keep pushing through on your own.

Hello, my name is Danielle. I believe that therapy is not a one-size-fits-all solution. Life is hard, and I hope to provide a safe space for healing. My goal as a therapist is to work with people as they deal with their emotional needs. Therapy is a process that requires a willingness to look inward and explore the good, the bad, and the ugly parts of life. I hope to help people as they navigate these truths.

We all have a unique story that can influence the relationship we have with ourselves and others. You may have experienced situations that have left you feeling worried, stressed or overwhelmed. Those experiences may try to interfere with you mentally, emotionally and leave doubting yourself and your abilities. Sometimes, you may be trying to juggle it all and have difficulty managing stress, work and family life. If you can relate to any of these experiences, you are not alone. I believe that despite life's challenges, you have inner strengths and abilities that can help you to reconnect with yourself and create a path forward.

People I work with are often required to over-functioning while managing the challenges of being under-resourced. They can feel pressured, even obligated, to show up strong and capable on the outside, even when they don’t feel that way underneath. Often stretched thin, they may have little space for rest and can feel depleted of their natural resilience. I offer an inclusive, affirming space where a person can be understood without judgment and begin the work of healing. Here, you are supported in strengthening your sense of self, building emotional safety, and living more fully in alignment with your values.

FAQ - Black and African American Counselling
As an African American, why might I wish to see a therapist who is African American?
Working with an African American therapist can often mean that you start from a place of shared understanding with a therapist rather than having to explain your experience from scratch. A therapist who shares your racial identity is more likely to understand the specific pressures shaping your mental health, including navigating racism, cultural identity, and the overall experience of being Black in the United States. They are also more likely to understand the role that family, community, and cultural expectations play in your life without requiring a lengthy explanation. This shared foundation can create a greater sense of safety in the therapeutic relationship and make it easier to open up at the start of therapy.

Are there Black therapists who specialize in working with Black men or Black women?
Yes, many Black therapists have specific experience working with Black men or Black women. While therapists who work with Black clients broadly address concerns relevant to all genders, like anxiety or depression, those with a gender-specific focus are equipped to work with you on the particular ways that race and gender may intersect. For example, some therapists may specialize in working with Black women on topics like body image or maternal mental health, while other therapists may work with Black men on topics such as relationships or masculinity.

Do Black therapists offer marriage and couples counseling?
Yes, many Black therapists are trained in couples and marriage counseling and can work with partners navigating a wide range of relationship challenges. Therapists who identify as Black may have a better understanding of the cultural dynamics surrounding marriage, family roles, and conflict that are specific to African American communities and can work with you and your partner without making assumptions about your background.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with Black clients?
The initial consultation, which is typically a brief phone or video call, is the right time to raise a therapist’s experience working with Black clients. You can ask specific questions, such as "Do you have experience working with Black clients?" or more broad questions, such as "How do you approach cultural identity in your practice?". During the initial consultation, you can also ask whether they have undertaken training in cultural competence and how they would handle a situation where a cultural misunderstanding arose in therapy. A therapist who responds to these questions thoughtfully and without defensiveness is a good sign they are equipped to work with you effectively.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Black therapists?
The directory of Black therapists includes therapists who have self-identified their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profile, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. In situations where the number of therapists who have identified as Black is limited, the directory will also show therapists who have undergone specific multicultural training or have extensive experience working with clients from relevant cultural backgrounds.
