Within that timeframe, I have developed counseling skills working primarily with adolescents in the school setting. I believe that individuals thrive within an atmosphere of unconditional positive regard and solution-focused goal-setting.

Do you feel disconnected from your spouse-- perpetually trying "reach" him or her, but angry, sad or frustrated at your inability to connect? Or perhaps you find yourself distancing from your marriage partner, avoiding conflict in order to feel safe, only to find yourself "walking on eggshells." You feel the pain of disconnection with the person you love, and you feel stuck; maybe it even feels hopeless at times. If only you could re-discover the bond that somehow still exists beneath the rubble of fighting, avoiding and blaming. Or, possibly your struggles are more individual than relational?

While I focus predominantly on Bipolar Disorder, OCD, and ADHD, I work with a variety of issues and comorbid conditions.
Being emotionally overwhelmed can make you feel out of control, disrupt your sense of self, and isolate you (whether emotionally or physically) from others. Even well-meaning others may not understand how to support you, causing you to feel unheard or ashamed. It might feel like your emotions dictate your life, and that being in hyper-control of your emotions is the only way to keep them from controlling you. Consequently, feeling like you can’t control your emotions can lead to more shame and helplessness.

Anxiety and depression are often visible symptoms but typically stem from deeper issues like ADHD, emotional abuse, or being raised by an emotionally immature parent.
Thank you for prioritizing your mental health and dedicating time to it. Welcome to my practice, Open Horizons, where I provide clinical and forensic psychological services. I believe mental health is as crucial as physical health. When our bodies feel unwell, it impacts our mood and thoughts. Alternatively, stress can manifest physically when we have a lot on our minds. You are probably here for a reason. Perhaps you worry too much about different things? Maybe you’re feeling down, depressed, or hopeless? Are you seeking guidance in navigating your relationships? Or you might simply want to gain a deeper understanding of yourself.

My practice focuses on helping children, adolescents, and adults who are challenged by anxiety, depression, and self-esteem; ADHD and executive functioning; screen time and tech issues; sexual, physical, and/or emotional abuse; co-dependency and other relationship issues; anger management, and adjustment to transitions and new stages in life.
I have seen time and time again the transformative impact of therapy on people of all ages. It can restore us to a place of peace and comfort or help us reach new levels of growth and fulfillment. It can help move us beyond the moments we feel stuck, overwhelmed, or alone. Likewise, it can help our children move past their self-doubt, difficulty managing their emotions, or sense of being lost in life. In either case, I want you to know you are not alone, nor were you meant to face the challenges of life without help. I will do everything I can to help you and your family embrace life, overcome challenges, and create possibilities.

Deep down, you want clarity, support, and the chance to feel steady and confident again.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
