Licensed Professional Counselor, EdS, NCC, LPC, CADC
I have been working with individuals struggling with posttraumatic stress disorder, substance use, sexual addiction and mental health challenges for the past ten years. I have a real heart to walk alongside to encourage, support, and empower you to move forward in your recovery needs. I graduated from Liberty University in 2014 with a MA in Professional Counseling and completing a Doctoral level specialization in Community Care and Counseling specializing in treating trauma-related challenges. I approach recovery through the eyes of motivational interviewing and cognitive-behavioral therapy.
Whether one is suffering from a chronic mental disorder, or the "worried well", I tailor therapeutic needs for each individual client. I use multiple theoretic approaches and the most up-to-date techniques to help individuals gain insight into their issues, decrease their symptoms, and to uncover the underlying issues that cause their distress. My goal is to help individuals reach their full potential, and to improve their daily functioning in a compassionate, personalized, and private setting.
I am not currently accepting new clients. There's a reason they say "It takes a village to raise a child." Parenting at times can get hard and overwhelming. But there's no need to navigate these difficult times alone. I proudly serve parents & children (ages 2-11 years old) who are struggling with big emotions & behaviors, developmental transitions, or child/adult mental health issues. I strive to create a therapeutic atmosphere where each family member feels seen & heard. Through play & child-centered therapy, I can begin to communicate with your child and be a guide as s/he/they make sense of their feelings and behaviors.
If you are reading this, you are probably thinking about reaching out for help, but you are feeling anxious, worried, or unsure. I know taking that first step can be hard, but I would like to encourage you to take that step toward a brighter future. Toward understanding, healing, and growing into a version of yourself that you never knew existed... You are probably still feeling nervous or unsure about therapy. You might be feeling like nobody will understand you or be able to help. I want to assure you that those feelings and thoughts are normal. Very often, when we are faced with an unknown, our mind becomes anxious.
Do you feel like you are trying to please everyone around you? You’ve always tried your best to do things right. Everyday you're exerting, trying to please everyone, to be perfect, but by doing that, you find yourself feeling disconnected. You feel like you’re at a dead end, trying to weather the storm. You wish you could turn back time to avoid your mistakes, but you know that is impossible. Then you realize that you need help from someone that will listen to you without judgement, a guide that will help you, not to achieve the impossible, but to solidify your bases so that you’re able to reinvent yourself and plan a better future

It's the middle of the day and suddenly an unpleasant memory comes to mind. Your heart starts to race, and an overwhelming fear invades your body. You have been experiencing nightmares, fall behind in your responsibilities, and avoid hanging out with friends. The more you try to avoid reacting to these memories the more overwhelmed you become. It starts to feel like you are stuck and that no matter what you do you are never going to be able to get past that moment.
Is your child struggling to fit in at school? Are they having difficulty with test taking or managing their anxiety? Is the school calling frequently to complain about their outburst in the classroom? Is your family going through a transition like a divorce or the death of a loved one and your child is having a hard time dealing with it? As a former Elementary & Middle School teacher and a parent, I know how overwhelming it can feel when your child is struggling and you don't know how to help them.
I use Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT) to challenge and change maladaptive cognitive distortions and behaviors which have negatively impacted ones life, and provide tools to improve emotion regulation, and the development of personal coping strategies to effectively problem solve independently. I am also certified in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), which is a psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences stemming from a variety of stressors, most notably: trauma, depression, anxiety, panic, disturbing memories, and PTSD.
