Are anxiety, ADHD, stress, life transitions or relationship challenges making it difficult to feel like yourself? You may find yourself overthinking, struggling to focus, feeling emotionally exhausted, or carrying the weight of constant expectations. Whether you're seeking individual therapy or navigating a neurodiverse relationship, you don't have to do it alone. When partners experience the world differently, conflict often emerges from misunderstanding rather than a lack of love. I have a special interest in helping neurodiverse couples build emotional safety while navigating ADHD, autism, trauma and differences in communication.

I help adults and teens struggling with anxiety, depression, and life transitions. Many feel stuck in self-doubt, overthinking, or burnout from putting others first. The first session is a chance for us to get to know each other. We'll explore what brought you in, touch on your personal history, and begin to shape what you're hoping to get out of therapy. I'll walk you through what working together looks like and go over confidentiality so you know what to expect. My goal is that you leave feeling heard.

As an African-American cisgender male, I aspire to use my position in the field of therapy to enhance the sense of ease and acceptance for minorities and men seeking clinical assistance.
Seeking help is a courageous act, and I admire my clients for taking the first step. I believe that each client is unique and that there is not a one-size-fits-all treatment plan. I aim to provide a non-judgmental environment for you to talk about your concerns and issues comfortably. It is crucial to approach such discussions with an unwavering sense of respect and unconditional positive regard for each person's unique journey. Through constructive conversation, we will work together to unravel the underlying emotions and thoughts that drive behaviors and to collaboratively tackle the areas of your life that you wish to transform.

I believe that therapy is for anyone seeking to improve their lives and their relationships. Sometimes life gets difficult to manage and we feel overwhelmed by expectations of ourselves and those around us. You may find it difficult to understand past experiences that remain hurtful or that continue to cause difficulty in navigating current relationships both personally and professionally. Traumatic experiences, grief/loss and life transitions can leave us feeling lost, doubtful, anxious and depressed. What if I told you that you can find the peace you need to live a life fulfilled? Well…you have already taken the first step!

Life is hard! I get it, and more importantly, I get you. Therapy doesn't have to be hard. Sometimes you just need some extra set of eyes on your life with genuine concern and wide expertise. But our children, our adolescents, and our very own relationships are hurting. Let's figure out what's wrong together and try to get things back to where they used to be or learn how to accept the new "new."

Everyday is a fresh start! I most certainly believe that Seasons Change and so do You! Often times when grief, toxic relationships overtake and break our hearts; caregiving stretches us, depression and anxiety infiltrate our minds; self-esteem and the inability to express thoughts and feelings; emotions overtake our voice; clients find themselves hiding in the shadows; just existing and not living; doing and not being. Learning to live within your desired lifestyle, gaining your voice, awareness, and setting goals to lead a mindful and healthier lifestyle innately inspires clients to move forward in whatever season they're facing.

My ideal client is someone who may feel overwhelmed, emotionally drained, or stuck between who they are and who they want to become. They may be facing anxiety, relationship stress, life transitions, or the pressure of always being “the strong one.” I also work with clients who are thriving in life—successful, focused, and high-functioning—yet still recognize the value of having a safe, judgment-free space to process their thoughts, maintain balance, and continue growing.

FAQ - Black and African American Counselling
As an African American, why might I wish to see a therapist who is African American?
Working with an African American therapist can often mean that you start from a place of shared understanding with a therapist rather than having to explain your experience from scratch. A therapist who shares your racial identity is more likely to understand the specific pressures shaping your mental health, including navigating racism, cultural identity, and the overall experience of being Black in the United States. They are also more likely to understand the role that family, community, and cultural expectations play in your life without requiring a lengthy explanation. This shared foundation can create a greater sense of safety in the therapeutic relationship and make it easier to open up at the start of therapy.

Are there Black therapists who specialize in working with Black men or Black women?
Yes, many Black therapists have specific experience working with Black men or Black women. While therapists who work with Black clients broadly address concerns relevant to all genders, like anxiety or depression, those with a gender-specific focus are equipped to work with you on the particular ways that race and gender may intersect. For example, some therapists may specialize in working with Black women on topics like body image or maternal mental health, while other therapists may work with Black men on topics such as relationships or masculinity.

Do Black therapists offer marriage and couples counseling?
Yes, many Black therapists are trained in couples and marriage counseling and can work with partners navigating a wide range of relationship challenges. Therapists who identify as Black may have a better understanding of the cultural dynamics surrounding marriage, family roles, and conflict that are specific to African American communities and can work with you and your partner without making assumptions about your background.

How might I inquire about a therapist’s experience working with Black clients?
The initial consultation, which is typically a brief phone or video call, is the right time to raise a therapist’s experience working with Black clients. You can ask specific questions, such as "Do you have experience working with Black clients?" or more broad questions, such as "How do you approach cultural identity in your practice?". During the initial consultation, you can also ask whether they have undertaken training in cultural competence and how they would handle a situation where a cultural misunderstanding arose in therapy. A therapist who responds to these questions thoughtfully and without defensiveness is a good sign they are equipped to work with you effectively.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Black therapists?
The directory of Black therapists includes therapists who have self-identified their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profile, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. In situations where the number of therapists who have identified as Black is limited, the directory will also show therapists who have undergone specific multicultural training or have extensive experience working with clients from relevant cultural backgrounds.
