“Our scars can destroy us, even after the physical wounds healed. But if we can survive them, they can even transform us. They can give us the power to endure and the strength to fight” - Batman, 2021. After you've experienced trauma you live in a different universe, you see the world differently. Only what you feel is real. Traumatized minds are directed by emotions and misinterpret logic. I work best with those who are highly imaginative, creative, and ready to confront their past.

My typical counseling approach, and that of my colleagues at Homestead Hope Counseling Services, is anchored firmly and unapologetically in the Christian world-view. We do so with a clear, unwavering theistic paradigm that acknowledges God's sovereignty in all things, as He is intimately interested in, and responsive to, each person and all they experience. Therefore, unless otherwise directed by the client, our approach will inherently involve the use of biblical revelation and the principles found therein, when ever appropriate and applicable. The Christ centered world view is paramount to my approach to healing.

Normal people have mental health problems, just like they have physical health problems. Honesty and openness are key components of counseling. It is really important to find someone with whom you feel comfortable and in whom you have confidence & trust. The best way to do that is to meet with the therapist in person to see if they are a good fit for you. My primary role is to serve as an objective consultant who uses his training and expertise to help people grow, change & reach their goals. A client's goals are my goals in working with them.

If you’re feeling stuck, skeptical about therapy, or wondering if it’s right for you, I’m here to offer an approach that’s tailored to those who may feel therapy isn’t “for them.” Many find it challenging to open up about struggles like anxiety, anger, or even deeper pain from trauma, but these feelings don’t have to hold you back. Whether you’re working through difficult emotions, managing depression, or dealing with relationship conflict, I provide a safe, non-judgmental space to help you find real, practical solutions that work for you.

Many clients seek therapy to heal from interpersonal trauma. Very frequently they do not understand what this or how it has affected their lives. Interpersonal trauma is a type of trauma that involves harm to a person by another. Survivors are frequently left feeling confused and unsafe in relationships. This can result in isolation, health problems, depression, and anxiety. People who have experienced mistreatment frequently need to identify negative patterns, communicate their standards, and set boundaries.

I understand how hard it can be to find help. You want someone to hear you, validate your feelings, and give you the tools you need to make your relationship successful, all in a nonjudgmental environment. I love helping my clients have healthier relationships. As a Gottman trained counselor, I can help you break down the walls that have been created in your relationship that divide you and your significant other by utilizing research based techniques. I use the Gottman Connect assessments with couples, which measure success or struggles in key areas such as friendship, intimacy, conflict resolution, household chores, & parenting.

As depression, anxiety, grief, and other mental health issues get bigger, our lives get smaller. They weigh us down, isolate us, and make even simple things seem difficult. Frustration, shame, and confusion from the constant struggle can add to the weight we are already carrying. Friends and loved ones may inadvertently make things worse by offering advice or trying to make us feel better. We put off seeking help because we feel guilty, embarrassed, or don’t want to burden people (especially when we are the "Strong" one who usually helps others). It can happen to anyone. The good news is that treatment works and therapy helps!

I work with women and female adolescents ages 14 and older. If you are feeling stuck in past behaviors or mindsets, frustrated from unmet expectations, overwhelmed from experiencing a major life transition or loss, dealing with burn out or anxiety, you have come to the right place. Maybe your life looks fine from the outside, but on the inside you are struggling with fear, depression, or a pregnancy or postpartum mental health complication. In our world, it is increasingly difficult to live a life of peace, joy, and mental wellness. As women, we carry so much with us in our day-to-day lives, both what is seen and unseen.

Whether it is with an individual, couple, or family, my experience and expertise is guiding people into the solutions they might not otherwise see. None of us can see the whole picture, therefore the perspective of a trained observer can make all the difference. We are all fragmented and fall short of our potential. When we can accept this fact, it allows us the freedom to grow into what we desire to be. My hope is to be able to help you toward this goal. If this is a road you would like to travel, I would love to have the opportunity to join you on your journey.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in Benbrook?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
