As a member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine I work with
couples
and individuals dealing with issues of infertility, including feelings of depression and inadequacy.
My practice is focused on the adult and young adult population and all of the life issues that accompany these age groups. These include issues of parenting, relationships, depression, life transitions, personality disorders, divorce, self image and self esteem issues. Identity concerns are also prominent in the young adult populations well as educational and career concerns. my practice philosophy is a comprehensive one and geared toward the needs of each client. I use psychodynamic and object
relationship
theories as well as solution focused and self management techniques. I provide
couples counseling
as a means toward conflict resolution. I have experience working with the adolescent population.

Are you struggling with a difficult
relationship
, situation or feelings? Perhaps life's stresses and strains are getting you down. If that sounds like you, then things are looking up. A really bright guy once said, "In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity." I believe that quotation by Albert Einstein sums up the positive potential of problems. They are a reason to re-evaluate, a chance to do something differently and a reminder that tomorrow doesn't have to be the same as today.

Throughout my many years of experience, I have seen many clients, each person with a unique set of circumstances to cope with. Anxiety and depression may factor into their life arc, some may be dealing with grief or past traumas, and others may have issues with their self-image. When assessing
couples
(I am both LPC and LMFT, so I frequently see clients with a variety of needs), I've noticed that the main issues that I offer assistance with tend to be communication issues that then lead to conflict. Clients that come to me actively want to improve their lives, and it is my pleasure to support them by meeting them where they are.

As a therapist for many years, I have found two approaches to
couples
therapy to stand out: Imago
Relationship
Therapy and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). Imago, described in the NY Times best-selling, Getting the Love You Want, (Dr. Harville Hendrix), teaches a simple yet powerful communication tool that is ideal for anyone wishing to learn effective communication. EFT is superb for helping
couples
move past their own and their
partner
's frustrations into their deeper longings for connection. Combined, these two methodologies have proven to be the most powerful approach I know for
couples
in any stage of
relationship
.

Often we are not sure why a family member,
partner
, boss or friend is causing so much chaos & misery.
Are you struggling with effects of Narcissist Abuse? The emotional and psychological damage from abusive personalities causes Anxiety, Depression, & other Stress Related Illnesses. They are often also substance abusers, inflicting even more damage. Whether a current or past
partner
, parent, sibling, friend, or boss, their years of chaotic torment inflicts lingering trauma responses such as fight, flight, fawning or freezing, & other unhealthy habits, even when the Narc is no longer in your life. Recovery requires therapeutic healing of self-esteem & practicing emotional, physical, spiritual, sexual, & financial boundaries.

As a part of living our lives, we may encounter situations that are difficult to manage alone. Some seek support due to a situational crisis. Others seek treatment as a necessary aspect of managing a medical disorder, commonly known as a mental illness. Whether you are experiencing a life adjustment or more complex medical conditions, it is a well known fact that therapy helps.

couples
with a variety of situations and issues, I understand that it is my role as your therapist to provide a safe and supportive environment for you to comfortably work through your concerns.
We have all been there before; can't eat or eat too much, can't sleep or sleeping too much, can't focus or complete normal tasks, irritable, angry or sad, all while dealing with stresses of daily life. If this sounds like you, you are not alone. Things happen in life that have a tremendous negative impact and disrupt your otherwise normal functioning life. When these events begin to take their toll in your life, they can result in Anxiety, Depression, conflicts and strains in relationships, mismanagement of your anger, or inability to manage stress in an effective way.

The success of all therapy still comes from the client - therapist
relationship
.
Tired of talk therapy? Although I have many years experience doing this, and still love it, cutting edge, research-based therapies like neurofeedback, EMDR, Touchpoints utilize the strengths of the brain to solve many longtime problems which we now recognize as biologically-based. In the hands of a seasoned therapist, these can often be as successful as medication for insomnia, anxiety, depression, and
relationship
problems.

Couples Counseling Therapists
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
