Despite the vast amounts of challenges that life may throw our way, I truly believe that mental flexibility and perseverance may be cultivated by anyone who would seek it. It allows one to bend in the winds of change without breaking, while adjusting and evaluating new wisdoms and perspectives that may be applied to one's life situations. The mind of an individual can be as flexible as one's ability to imagine it to be, when given the support and permission to do so through my integrative and pragmatic approach to therapy.

You may look like you’re holding it together on the outside while inside you feel anxious, overwhelmed, shut down, or stuck in survival mode. Maybe you understand your patterns intellectually, but your body still reacts as if it isn’t safe. Trauma, chronic stress, anxiety, and burnout can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself, exhausted, and stuck in ways that coping skills alone do not always reach.

Healing and making life changes is what therapy is all about. I work with adolescents and adults using approaches encompassing spiritual, cognitive, behavioral, insight, and EMDR to make this happen. EMDR is a physiologically based method of therapy I use with many clients who have post traumatic stress, disturbing memories, anxiety and/or a history of abuse. This ranges from trauma experienced by veterans of wars, crime, and natural disasters to childhood emotional and physical abuse to varying degrees. Together we will match your therapy needs with the optimum approach for your healing and facilitation of change.

Has your relationship become an angry, sad, or scary place leaving you feeling alone, hurt and discouraged? Are you and your partner feeling lost in conflict cycles you don’t understand and desperately want to change? Many of the couples I work with come to therapy feeling just like you. I understand how much courage it takes to reach out for help and to let another person get inside your relationship, especially when you are feeling so vulnerable. If you are searching for a safe place to explore what's not working in your relationship, and support in creating solutions, I can help.

For the last 30 years I've been privileged to work with courageous clients as they face traumatic life events, stand up to addictions, grieve betrayals and losses, and find freedom to live a more enjoyable confident life. I have a lot of respect for anyone willing to enter into a counseling process with a commitment to growth and change. The counseling process takes a lot of work and determination but I have seen long lasting results as clients have faced uncomfortable feelings and beliefs and literally rewired their brains! I can't imagine a more rewarding job.

Something happened to your body. Maybe it was mold. Maybe it was a slow accumulation of stress, illness, and being dismissed by people who were supposed to help. Maybe you don't even have a name for it yet — just the knowledge that you haven't felt like yourself in a long time, and that something is genuinely wrong. You're not imagining it. What I've learned after 22 years of sitting across from people in exactly this place: the body and brain keep a very accurate record. If you've read this far and something in you relaxed a little — that's worth paying attention to.

Transpersonal Therapists
How does transpersonal therapy work?
Transpersonal therapy focuses on a patient’s spirituality and meaning in life. Transpersonal therapists might borrow from Eastern traditions as well as Western psychology. They may incorporate techniques including meditation, visualization, hypnotherapy, dream analysis, and or breathwork to produce altered states of consciousness. The therapist helps the patient to access their consciousness and spirituality to work through difficult mental states.

How long does transpersonal therapy last?
Because the goal is to understand a person as a whole, including their spirituality, treatment can range from months to a year or beyond. While patients learn the philosophy behind transpersonal therapy during treatment, they can also practice its principles throughout life after therapy sessions have ended.

Is transpersonal therapy effective?
Patients have found success with transpersonal therapy; this method is useful in improving anxiety, depression, self-esteem, identity, fears, relationship problems, and other concerns. Improvements in problem areas can continue even after transpersonal therapy ends, as individuals can utilize the tools they’ve learned during treatment sessions.

What are the limitations of transpersonal therapy?
There is some research on the effectiveness of transpersonal therapy, but empirical support for this therapy approach is sparse. It does not have the robust evidence base of other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioral therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy.
