Sometimes, life happens, and we experience heartaches, anxieties, broken promises, betrayals, conflicts, disillusionment or we feel alone and abandoned. At such times, we need someone we can trust with our deepest fears and concerns; someone to listen to us with respect, someone to lean on for clarity, guidance, and support in a way that strengthens us and improve our sense of purpose. It is scary enough reaching out to a counselor, but even more frightening is the challenge of finding the right counselor to trust with your concerns.

In my practice of over 20 years, I have treated all varieties of issues from depression and anxiety , PTSD and dissociative disorders, physical pain, troubled or broken relationships, grief, anger, trauma incidents, bullying, troubled parent-child issues, LGBTQ issues, and all types of addictions.
Have you had a situation happen that has caused deep emotional or physical pain? Has the pain been pushing you to the breaking point? Pain can come in many forms both emotional and physical and the strategies we use to deal with it often make the problem worse rather than better. Are you unsure what to do or where to go? Is your desire to get out of the pain but you are afraid that it can't get better? I can tell you from experience that ignoring it doesn't help but I do know that there are lots of strategies to get through it. I’d like the opportunity to show you how to turn your breakdown into a BREAKTHROUGH!

I use an Existential approach which helps to overcome adversity, examine fears , and inspire purpose.
"The purpose of psychotherapy is to set people free" (May, Rollo). You may feel bound by a broken heart, childhood, or a traumatic experience. Or maybe you are in a tough season and need support for a time. Well, your desire to change your circumstance is the first step to setting yourself free and creating the life you want. To take a holistic approach, we will also look at your significant relationships. Healthy relationships are at the core of overall wellness. I will help you to assess the quality of your current relationship(s) and move towards more meaningful connections.

Counseling is recommended for those that may be currently experiencing some type of unwanted or unmanageable emotional or "thinking" difficulty that requires the assistance of a trained mental health professional. Seeking counseling should never carry a negative stigma or feelings of shame. Counseling is a therapeutic process for individuals that may have diagnosed or undiagnosed mental health issues such as depression, anxiety , bi-polar disorder, obsessive compulsive disorder, or difficulty in building and maintaining heathy relationships. Coaching is recommended for those that are looking for less intensive guidance in assisting them to enhance their own personal performance.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
