My clinical interests cover depression, anxiety, complex trauma, intergenerational/racialized trauma, relationship conflicts, addiction, existential crises and various issues through a de-pathologized/anti-oppression lens supplemented by neuroscience.
The world is becoming more complex as we are expected to do more with less time and energy. What if you were already coping with difficulties from a not so distant past? With my own history of self worth/doubt, health issues and being told "I don't belong here", I can vividly remember the frustration and loneliness of trying to "live your life" while feeling excluded. I draw from this to empathize and build a mutual understanding of "now" and create a path to a more authentic version of "you." We often look to the past to find origins of problems, but its equally important to dig through our history to find gems of resilience.

I'll accompany you as you uncover your way back to your core Self- meaning, who you were before the trauma and pain necessitated strategies that created further suffering.
We all long to feel connected, known, and loved. And when we don’t, it can create tremendous suffering. In response to our pain, we adapt and learn ways to cope- ultimately seeking to make intolerable feelings tolerable. But our coping strategies disconnect us from who we truly are and come at a high cost. I offer a therapeutic lifeline that empowers you to claim your inherent worth and inner knowing. I deeply respect and want to nurture the wisdom you hold inside yourself. You may worry that you are too flawed, but together we can rediscover your worthiness and the inherent beauty within you.

When people understand how trauma has changed them they can begin to change themselves.
You have to let go of trying to solve and slow down. Reconnect to yourself first and notice what you're thinking and doing. You’ll discover solutions you never considered so you can choose different thoughts and behaviors.

I use EMDR to help clients with symptoms from past or recent trauma, like depression, anxiety, grief, or anger.
Unhealed wounds from our past can cause problems in our lives even today. Our pain gets to the point where we can begin to doubt things will ever change, we can doubt ourselves and our worth. We may find that the hurts from our past are sabotaging the healthy parts of our present. We try to move on, but the sadness, grief, or anger we carry can feel impossible to shake. At the end of the day, we’re sick of our past taking our present hostage. We’re tired of the pain controlling our emotions, relationships, and goals. We want our lives back. We want a life that’s not just about surviving, but really thriving.

Many of them have also experienced childhood trauma and/or trauma later in life, complex PTSD, depression, anxiety, panic attacks, and depression.
I am certified in EMDR. I have found that EMDR is very effective and transformative in the treatment of complex PTSD, depression, anxiety, panic attacks and depression. EMDR gives clients the opportunity to address distorted beliefs such as "I'm not good enough" or "I'm not safe" and replace those beliefs with "I"m good enough" or "It's over, I'm safe now".

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
