I’m experienced with dissociative states, queerness, chronic thoughts of suicide, and psychosis from personal experience.
Existence can feel like a fight in a world built to make us suffer. Feeling disconnected or unhuman is something we don't have to hide- we can care for it. Maybe you've gone through something traumatic like psychosis or abuse, and you’re trying to put together what feels like broken pieces. My clients’ goals vary—sometimes it’s about finding community and feeling connected to everyone’s freedom, and other times it’s just making it through to the next day. My client's needs typically surround queer community, relationships to family, or navigating tension in relationships related to attachment.

My knowledge base also includes suicidal ideation, personality disorders, mood disorders, depression, anxiety and psychosis.
Your health is important, and when something feels off, it makes sense to notice and respond. What happens when worry takes over? Cycles of hypervigilance, Googling symptoms, or bracing for the worst can leave you feeling stuck. The fear might come from lived experience like an accident, diagnosis, or a medical emergency, but it can also take hold without a clear cause. Even if results are normal, the anxiety is real and can keep you up at night or send you to the ER. After the panic, frustration, embarrassment, or shame may follow. It’s not “just in your head.” It’s real, and it can make it hard to feel safe in your own body.

I specialize in using DBT, CBT, and IFS modalities to help adults (and some teens) struggling with substance use, personality disorders, self-harm/ suicidal thoughts, emotional outbursts, and other behavioral issues.
We all begin the therapeutic journey with our own set of strengths and needs. Sometimes our uniqueness promotes creativity, new perspectives, and collaboration. Other times our uniqueness can be terminal; leading to emptiness, feeling disconnected from self and others, and beliefs that mental health treatment may work for other people, but it won’t work for you. Therapy is not about “getting over” events and issues; it’s about understanding your triggers and learning how to manage your thoughts, emotions, and behaviors so that you can move forward and continue to build a fulfilling life.

I work with behaviors we are taught to be silent about and ashamed of, such as suicidal ideation and addictions.
Are you yet to find a therapist you feel comfortable with and can relate to? Has previous therapy “only scratched the surface” of the real reasons you are seeking help? You’re not alone. My clients often need a deep sense of connection in order to feel safe in their most vulnerable moments. Most of my clients are looking for a highly-trained psychologist who is not afraid to show her humanity nor bear witness to theirs. I aim to make you feel seen, understood, and safe as you work through difficult emotions and/or painful past experiences.

Over the last 9 years I have worked with teens, families, and adults who have experienced depression, anxiety, grief/loss, anger issues, bipolar, PTSD, thoughts/attempts of suicide, self-harm, panic attacks, existential stress, abuse, trauma, addiction, body dysmorphia, LGBTQIA+ issues, cultural shock, interpersonal conflict, life transitions and much more.

Within this space your needs come first and you get to choose what you want out of your treatment. Judgment will never be placed on you and you can be your true genuine self. My approach to therapy is warm, empathetic, and strengths based. I utilize several different modalities to best meet individuals needs but almost always incorporate some form of positive psychology and/or mindfulness to strengthen neuro-connections in the brain that influence positive thinking.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists
How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?
Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.
Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?
The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.
How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?
As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
