I am glad you are reaching out for support. It is my belief that most people have the ability to grow and build on their own strengths; however, at times, need empowerment and encouragement. My goal is to help you work on and accomplish your goals, regardless of how big or how small they may be. My approach to working with individuals includes a collaborative approach where solutions, instead of problems, are the focus. I believe that one of the main goals is to give clients the tools and skills they need to make positive changes in their lives.

I specialize in working with life transitions, anxiety, depression, eating disorders, substance abuse/addiction, spiritual identity, and helping to develop coping mechanisms/tools to reduce stress .
I view my role as a therapist much like that of a guide as well as a teacher. I work to help clients build and maintain the necessary tools they already have existing within themselves and lead clients to new discoveries of living life in a more balanced way. Through utilizing existing tools, as well as learning new possibilities of living, clients are able to reach their full potential for prolonged success. The foundational approaches I choose to work from are person centered, and mindfulness based. I also utilize experiential forms of therapy.

My purpose is to provide a safe and supportive environment while you explore and grow in your ability to manage stress and anxiety.
Are you finding yourself feeling down and experiencing anxious thoughts? Are these thoughts usually negative, leading you to doubt yourself, worry, or obsess over varying outcomes? This can be common when experiencing significant life changes, like starting college, moving out of your family home, having relationship challenges, or starting a new job. While these changes are common in young adults, they can lead to burnout, decreased self-esteem, and anxiety. My name is Abigail Bell, and I have the privilege to be able to walk alongside you in the navigation and exploration of these challenges.

Hello there and welcome! I was born in Austin, TX and grew up in a bi-cultural Korean American family. For the last 13+ years I have dedicated my life to serving those with severe mental illness, co-occurring substance use, and trauma and I have come to believe that there is inherent worth and strength in all of us. I aim to provide a safe space, free of judgment, where we can share, learn, and nourish your unique strengths. I hope that, together, we can find your voice and celebrate your worth.

No matter what you do, it never feels enough. On the outside, you appear to have it all together; you’re driven, reliable, and hard-working. But on the inside, you experience constant thoughts of self-doubt that keep you up at night. Your relentless self-criticism gets in the way of the life you want in so many ways. You feel drained, burnt out, and in a constant state of stress and overwhelm. To not feel even more overwhelmed, you tend to push your emotions to the side and feel alone in your experience. Sound familiar?

Some of my specialties include working with the LGBTQIA+ community; body image and disordered eating; autonomy and identity development; chronic stress and improving physical health by addressing mental health; religious trauma; the vegan community; and shame and self-esteem.
I utilize an integrated and holistic approach to therapy that is grounded in relational-cultural theory (RCT). I aim to understand and address the ways in which a client’s presenting concerns manifest in their mind, body, and spirit. I believe that clients come to me already holding the answers and guidance they are looking for and it is my role to help empower them to connect with their inner knowing. I encourage clients to increase mindfulness and emotional awareness to help them become an intentional creator of their experiences. I aim to help clients let go of shame and develop self-compassion.

Are you experiencing chronic stress , feeling stuck in painful past experiences, or a desire to move forward in your career or relationships? Using EMDR and Brainspotting, I help people who seek productive therapy for lasting relief and forward movement towards their goals - people who don't want to spend months and years in therapy only to find themselves in the same patterns and the same pain. Many of my clients desire better relationships with their partner or children - especially with teenaged children! Often I work with people who are going through a major life transition and feel frozen, sad or overwhelmed.

How can I find a therapist in Austin?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
