Athletic culture often praises the ability to do it all, however, we all experience issues that cannot be masked or pushed aside. I provide athletes a place of understanding support to work through issues such as eating concerns, body image, anxiety, depression, injury, post- sports career, relationships, substance use, or traumatic events. Athletes devote tremendous time and energy to physical training, and I believe intentionality with mental health is just as important for improving quality of life, and for improved sports performance .

I am EMDR certified and have experience utilizing EMDR with a variety of trauma, sports performance , chronic pain, recent events, and helping the nervous system release emotion.
I am passionate about helping people by teaching them to help themselves. This looks like teaching coping skills and thought-change perspectives to expand their ability to cope with the stressors of life. I have experience working a variety of athletes from elite to recreational levels for both personal and performance-based concerns. I am also passionate about serving clients experiencing grief and loss, as grief requires being witnessed to heal, and I am willing to witness your grief. I welcome clients looking to work through anxiety, breakups, loss of identity, and life change.

As a sports psychologist, I have a unique practice in that I specialize in working with athletes who have the desire to take their game to the next level. Being a competitive athlete helps me relate to other competitive people in sports or business. My primary focus is on confidence building and the elimination of performance anxiety. I use a 3 tiered approach to training: Perspective Training, Mental Skills Training, and Applied Settings (if applicable at a sporting location). I am the only professional to offer that kind of travel service. We also offer Coaching Certification Programs for those who are interested in teaching.

Sports challenges are unique. Understanding the connection between mind and body, and the role played by attitude, emotions, and perspective in achieving excellence is just as important as physical training. Our therapists are specifically trained on the nuances of working with athletes and their issues, which may include: sports performance & anxiety, injury & recovery, body image & eating disorders, post- sports transition, trauma, competition. We know disappointment is not failure. It is the opportunity to move forward into success, much like the mythical Phoenix rising above 'what is' to achieve 'what can be.'

Peak Performance Coach - trained in Sports Psychology ; International Coaching Federation (ACC); Advanced Certification in Personal & Executive Coaching (ACPEC) from College of Executive Coaching.
I'm a Clinical Psychotherapist with a subspecialty in Stress Management. As an Inner Game (Performance) Coach, I help those who fear public speaking, become confident & even enjoy connecting w/their audience (what an idea). As an Inner Game Coach, I help athletes of all sports play as well, if not better when competing than when practicing - how to get into "the Zone." I help clients improve their work/life balance; those with test anxiety learn how to pass their licensure exams; and help clients improve their personal life (relationships; resilience; move beyond procrastination, fear of failure; fear of success).

I help you to change habits, feelings and thoughts that aren't supporting you right now, using the power of your subconscious mind. My clients usually come to me when something is getting in the way of their feeling good or doing well. It could be to stop smoking or another 'bad' habit, a weight issue, under-performance in sports or school, stress or frustration at work or at home, relationship challenges from the past or in the present, or simply stop doing what isn't working and start doing what is, making it easy and automatic within the mind.

Looking for more balance, meaning, and/or self-awareness in your life? Many of us already possess the knowledge, strengths, and resources to resolve our own problems; however, a trained and supportive professional can help identify tools and strengths as well as assist with improving coping skills. My role is to provide gentle guidance, support, and encouragement to clients that are struggling or are facing challenges. I work to create a nurturing and safe environment that creates a comfortable place where we can explore issues and any negativity that may be getting in the way of leading a more meaningful and fulfilling life.

I strongly believe in the practice of: embracing personal growth, enhancing performance, and enriching one's passion.I am curious about finding ways to enhance one's "heart" and inner drive that leads to greater sense of empowerment. While pushing oneself to their physical limits one can begin to understand the importance of mental strength. My goal is to understand your experience, your needs, and provide evidence based treatment. The therapeutic journey is personal and emotional. I appreciate being a part of your journey.

Are you an athlete constantly worried about your sport performance? Have you recently been injured and find your mood has taken a nose dive as you wait for your body to heal, afraid you will not return to the same level of fitness as before? Are body image issues or your relationship to food having a negative impact on your sport? Or maybe you are at the end of your sport career, struggling to let it go and confused about your identity outside of your sport. Have you turned to substances to cope? Is your team less cohesive and more conflicted, losing focus and competing more with each other than against your actual opponents?

Sports Performance Therapists

How does sports psychology work?

Sports psychology helps athletes identify and overcome challenges, such as perfectionism or a fear of failure, and improve key mental skills, such as confidence or concentration. By applying principles and techniques from psychology, such as goal-setting, visualisation, positive self-talk, and emotion regulation, sports psychologists help athletes improve their performance on the field and their well-being overall.

How long does treatment for a sports-related problem take?

The duration of sports psychology treatment depends on the athlete’s individual challenges, goals, the complexity of the interventions used, and even on the length of the season. A performance anxiety issue may be treated with a short-term treatment, like Cognitive behavioural therapy, while issues such as depression, substance abuse, or severe anxiety may require longer-term treatments.

How effective is treatment for sports performance problems?

Sports psychology has been shown to improve performance and help athletes manage their emotions. Sports psychology can be effective in boosting performance, team dynamics, and injury rehabilitation. Over the past decade, nearly every professional sports team in every major sport has added a sports psychologist to its staff. Many colleges have done the same, and even some high school programs have done the same. Olympic hopefuls may consult with sports psychologists starting in elementary school.

What are the limitations of sports psychology?

Sports psychology may have several limitations. Every athlete is unique and may respond differently to sports psychology treatments. Therapy can help an athlete reach their potential; it can help athletes cope with injury and pain, but it cannot change the physical limitations that may be affecting an athlete’s performance.
