*****Virtual Therapy Only at This Time*****. Finding the right therapist in itself can be overwhelming. I provide free consultations so that you can get an idea if we are a good fit. It's been my passion the last 13 years to help people after experiencing traumatic events. I am trained in EMDR which is also known as "no talk therapy". You can share as much or as little as you like making it a preferable type of therapy for those struggling with trauma but not comfortable talking about it. I have also worked closely with first responders for the last 10 years making me familiar with the culture.

Sometimes Change Is Hard. As humans we are much like butterflies. As the caterpillar works in the dark lonely cocoon to transform, its struggle gives it the strength to emerge and take flight. And sometimes that change is so hard for us humans that we need help. We may need encouragement, guidance, tools, feedback or a safe place to process. Seeking counseling or psychotherapy in Austin can be daunting. I have 30+ yrs providing mental health services. Together we will identify your goals, strengths and weakness. My goal is to guide, empower & encourage my clients to become their best selves with the most effective life skills.

I support people of diverse backgrounds seeking to manage stress, depression/anxiety and heal from experiences of trauma,
sexual abuse
, and/or domestic violence.
Counseling is a space where you don’t have to pretend everything is okay or hide what you’re going through. You do that enough in other areas of your life. You do not have to repeat those patterns here. In counseling, all parts of you are welcome and all the things you have gone through can be talked about. My goal is to work together to reclaim your life through talk and connection by affirming your needs, identity and beliefs while urging you to make informed decisions about therapy.

It’s my fault. I should have known better. I could have stopped it. If you are here you may have experienced
sexual abuse
as a child or someone has forced, tricked, or pressured you into something sexual. Your mind screamed no, but your voice remained silent. Fear paralyzed you. Memories are foggy, but haunting. You feel dirty, used and ashamed. You hate your body. Anxiety and sadness consume you. It feels like you have been torn to pieces and your power taken. Every decision and feeling is followed by confusion and doubt. Can I ever trust my instincts again? All you want is to forget it happened and move on with your life.

Overcoming anxiety and depression and healing from
sexual abuse
can change your life.
Have you been holding back on therapy because you worry it will be boring or filled with a whole bunch of advice you don't want? Don't worry! Therapy doesn't have to be like that. In fact, I believe effective therapy should feel engaging and light-hearted. Don't get me wrong - therapy is hard work, especially when you have something traumatic to unpack. Together, we'll sort through those issues and work toward the healing you deserve while leaving space for creativity and playfulness along the way. We'll also be able to do so much great work all from the comfort and security of your home, which is why I love video therapy.

In addition to being EMDR trained I have over a decade of experience helping victims of sexual
assault
and domestic violence through my work with women's shelters and non profit agencies that serve victims of abuse.
* Currently full, email to be placed on Waitlist* I believe that every person has the ability to heal and that power comes from within. I work with individuals and families to help them find peace and strength. I have experience working with women, men and children who have experienced traumatic life events. Depression and anxiety - sadness and fear - are areas that I help clients gain power over symptoms to find peace within. A philosophy that I use to guide my approach is this: in life pain is inevitable, suffering, however, is not. If you are suffering know that help exists in the form of compassionate and caring counseling.

Sexual Abuse Therapists
How do therapists treat sexual abuse?
A good therapist will be nonjudgmental and possibly demonstrate active listening, repeating back what the client says to show that they have understood. These skills allow people to feel comfortable discussing their traumatic experiences openly. Some important treatment goals are to restore a sense of safety and to rebuild confidence. In addition to working one-on-one with the patient, a therapist might bring in supportive family members to assist the client.
Do you have to talk extensively about sexual abuse in therapy?
Survivors frequently find it difficult to describe what happened to them out loud. They can even still be in a state of denial if the sexual abuse occurred recently. It is important for survivors to acknowledge that what happened isn’t their fault and to challenge and reappraise any unhealthy feelings or thoughts as they arise. Art therapy and play therapy are useful non-verbal means of communication for some survivors.
How long does treatment for sexual abuse take?
Recovery from sexual abuse can be a long and difficult process. Some survivors are able to move on naturally on their own, given time, while others require the guidance of a trained therapist. Therapy needs vary and can range from a few sessions to months or even years. Healing from sexual abuse takes time, and everyone’s journey will look a little different.
Can trauma symptoms caused by sexual abuse come back after treatment?
As occurs in many cases of trauma, survivors of sexual abuse may experience PTSD-like symptoms long after the abuse has ceased or after an initial round of treatment has occurred. In such a case, there is evidence that prolonged exposure therapy is a useful treatment for survivors, and may be more efficacious than supportive counseling alone. While triggers may continue to cause distress, the idea is that, with time and repeated exposure, their power will fade, allowing survivors to move on with their lives.
