Hello there! Word on the street is that deciding to seek out, and securing, a therapist isn't the easiest task. I want to recognize the effort it takes to find a provider, and I hope you feel empowered as you decide with whom you'd like to grow. My clinical experience includes the areas of intimate partner and domestic violence, trauma, cultural dynamics, grief, shame, and concerns regarding legal 'systems.' I've conducted group and individual therapy in Spanish and English with people who often feel overlooked, overwhelmed, and stuck.

Do you feel stuck or misunderstood? Are you striving to make things right in relationships, but are continuing to feel unfulfilled? Do you struggle with self-judgment? Therapy can provide a new perspective. By exploring your experiences and thoughts, we'll work together to identify what's holding you back and healthy ways of coping with the circumstances you are sorting through.

Life can be messy and unpredictable. Whatever is going on, perhaps your situation is leaving you anxious, depressed, discouraged, and even a little hopeless at times. I imagine you're here because you no longer want to feel this way. You're ready for something - anything, really - to change. Maybe someone encouraged you to reach out because they're worried about you. Maybe you're worried, too. I am a woman of Indian descent, and I specialize in working with highly sensitive people from multicultural backgrounds.

Life is hard and suffering is normal. It’s an inevitable part of being human. Most of us, often from a young age, develop different patterns or defenses to manage our suffering in order to keep our heads above water. This can look like many different things: numbing our emotions, self-criticism, addiction, anxiety, self-sabotage - the list goes on. We do these things not because anything is inherently wrong with us, but because for a long time, these patterns help us survive. Clients often come to me when they reconcile the fact that these patterns are no longer working - and instead, they’re making them miserable.

Do you love plants, rocks, little creatures and sunshine? Me too! We all want to feel productive but sometimes chasing productivity makes relaxing and resetting feel unimportant so we push it aside or abandon it all together. It's frustrating knowing this isn't what you want for yourself but you can't seem to make things manageable. If we allow the "To Do" list to be in charge, it's never-ending and gets overwhelming. Adding anxiety, depression, or trauma can make it paralyzing. But I'm here to start with you. We're gonna go outside, take a breath, and remember that nature is a part of how humans heal and restore.

Therapy shouldn’t feel hollow or performative. Maybe you’ve had a therapist rely on clichés like, “holding space” without sincerity. Or you’ve avoided therapy altogether, fearing judgment or detachment. You’re here because patterns in your life won’t change, and the weight of wondering if it’s all your fault—or some cosmic punishment— sucks. You’re starting to see where your parents fucked up, and how it’s on you to fix it, but you want someone who will truly care and challenge you to fight for yourself.

I’m Sakena, therapist, mom, wife, and former corporate girlie who now works with folks who feel like they’ve hit their limit. I’m warm, direct, and not afraid to keep you accountable. I won’t just sit back and nod or ask you how you feel without helping you understand where it’s coming from and what to do about it. My clients are the go-to person for everyone else. They’re smart, capable, and successful, and internally stressed out. Some are stuck in broken relationship, some are battling anxiety and depression. But most of them dont have anyone who they feel they can really feel vulnerable with to talk to..

I enjoy working primarily in the areas of depression, anxiety, life transitions, self-esteem, perfectionism, and grief and loss.
Therapy provides the unique opportunity for you to adventure into and openly investigate your internal world. Emotional transformations can be akin to wading into the ocean or navigating a new trail in the forest. While these pursuits are exciting, they can also be intimidating, challenging, or frustrating at times. I view my role as your co-pilot; helping you to navigate what it is that brings you to therapy with the goal of unleashing your innate strengths and ability to overcome. I do so with a genuine curiosity and openness, integrating my training in mindfulness and Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy.

Self Esteem Therapists

When should a person seek therapy for low self-esteem?

When self-esteem problems begin to disrupt the healthy daily functioning of an individual, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not engaging with friends for fear of being judged, not completing work assignments because they don’t think they’re capable, or not finding romantic love because they don’t feel they’re worthy of it, a therapist may be able to help.

What are the signs of low self-esteem?

Low self-esteem is a common issue that can affect a person's mental and emotional well-being. Some common signs of low self-esteem include negative self-talk, perfectionism, social anxiety, difficulty making decisions, an inability to set boundaries, people-pleasing, and others. A lack of belief in oneself or one’s abilities and a feeling of not being worthy or deserving underlie most of these characteristics.

What causes low self-esteem?

Feelings of low self-worth can begin in childhood or adulthood. Being raised by a highly critical parent or growing up feeling constant disapproval can stay with a person well into adulthood. Specific issues in adulthood may also be a cause of low self-esteem. An unhappy relationship, a dysfunctional work or school experience can impact a person’s feelings of self-worth.

How can therapy improve self-esteem?

Therapists can help identify negative thought patterns that keep the client stuck in a loop of destructive self-talk and develop coping skills to change the voice in their head. A therapist can help with goal-setting, so that clients are better able to stay on task and build confidence from successfully completing work they’re proud of. Coaching a client on how to better communicate can improve relationships. These skills can result in someone with low self-esteem feeling empowered and living with less fear.
