Currently I work with adults to address issues of infertility,
perinatal
and
postpartum
, relationship issues, family conflict, life transitions, anxiety, and depression.
Are you struggling to cope with our ever-changing, stressful world? Do you wish to improve the relationship with yourself and others and aren't quite sure how to do that? Are you struggling with infertility or would you like support during your
pregnancy
and post-partum journey? As a therapist, it is my goal to help you address the issues you are facing in a safe environment and work toward personal growth. I truly believe we all have the capacity for change and to empower ourselves. Having participated in a great amount of therapy myself, I understand what it is like to be on the other side and to be vulnerable with someone new.

The experience of
pregnancy
and
postpartum
is as unique and complex as the individual. Yet, we so often see only a singular narrative: that of a joyous, blissful mother. As we work together, I hope to create a warm and welcoming environment that allows you to shed your preconceived notions of parenthood and to come to know your own story. I draw from a background working with families in the profoundly intimate space of the first few days
postpartum
, and my training as a full-spectrum doula. I have come to understand the inherent vulnerability of
postpartum
and the complex and varied experiences of new families.

What is a PMH-C? A
perinatal
mental health clinician with extensive and advanced training in
Perinatal
Mood and Anxiety Disorders.
The focus for my practice is reproductive counseling. I help clients facing struggles with infertility,
pregnancy
and infant loss, and
perinatal
mood disorders. I work to form a strong relationship with clients to help them understand the many transitions and some loss that accompanies new parenthood or expanding families. I also see clients who have moved on from having children and are now facing the changes that come with peri-menopausal syndrome and menopause. My approach to this work is through a relational approach with some cognitive behavioral and mindfulness strategies.

Welcome! I enjoy working with people of all cultures and backgrounds. I have experience working with adults through childhood trauma, sexual trauma, grief and loss, those who have been victims of crime, depression, anxiety, cultural identity, perfectionism, and shame. I love working with folks to reduce shame, symptoms of anxiety and depression, process trauma, and anything else that keeps you from experiencing life the way you want. Additionally, I have a special place in my heart for working with folks during their
perinatal
journey through infertility,
pregnancy
,
perinatal
loss, post-partum struggles, and 3rd party reproduction.

perinatal
mental health, solution-focused brief therapy, lactation counseling, trust based relational intervention, cognitive behavioral therapy, and motivational interviewing.
As human beings, we are hard-wired for two things: to survive and to connect. I whole-heartedly believe that in order to survive (and thrive!) in life, we need connection. We all want to feel seen, heard, understood, and accepted; these are the basic ingredients in order for us to feel safe in our relationships, and what I strive to bring to you as your therapist. I am equipped to support adults experiencing depression, anxiety, trauma, and stress, and parents facing behavioral and relational challenges with children under the age of 7. I also specialize in
perinatal
mental health and lactation.

If you have ended a wanted
pregnancy
, you are welcome & deserving of compassion, healing, & community. Termination for medical reasons (TFMR), or ending a wanted
pregnancy
due to the health of the baby or the pregnant person, is uniquely complex & results in the devastating loss of a much loved baby & future. You may feel much of the same pain & silencing that other
pregnancy
& infant loss parents do. You may also feel additional layers of shame, fear, & judgment due to the politicized nature of the loss, the idea that you had to make a “choice,” & the lack of safe & inclusive communities & resources available to support you.

I enjoy working with parents during the
perinatal
period and beyond, both to support them in their own healing and in connecting with and parenting their children.
If you're reading this, you may be feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stuck. Perhaps your important relationships are suffering. Maybe you know exactly what is causing your distress, or maybe something just feels off. These could be new feelings or feelings you've experienced your entire life. Often, the work I do involves exploring how earlier experiences may be impacting current symptoms, building an understanding of what is happening in the brain, and learning strategies to help regulate the nervous system.

pregnancy
and beyond.
Being a parent is hard and you don’t have to do it alone! The journey of
pregnancy
through motherhood can be joyous, overwhelming, fun and draining; it is emotionally and physically exhausting and everyone needs help or support at times. Are you experiencing infertility,
pregnancy
loss or complications, a NICU stay, or
postpartum
mood and anxiety disorders? Focusing on your own needs and healing for a short time each week can help improve your ability to care for yourself, your children and family.

There are times in life when you may find yourself panicking, full of rage or tearful, not knowing why you are experiencing these difficult emotions. Big life events such as relationship endings and beginnings,
pregnancy
, experiencing losses and becoming a parent, are times that can bring about many different feelings. You might be wondering how you can get through anxiety, depression, or conflict with loved ones. Negative thoughts can make the past, present and future a scary place. I want you to know, there is nothing wrong with you.

I have practiced psychotherapy for the past ten years with a focus on children and families,
perinatal
mental health, anxiety, depression, and ADHD.
Deciding to speak to a therapist is a step in the direction of health - mental, emotional, and sometimes physical. My clients usually come to me after they have tried all they can think of - I feel honored to be their next step and honor the steps they've already taken. Whether a client's concerns pertain to parenting or becoming a parent,
perinatal
mental health, life transitions, ADHD, or general mental health, I enjoy working together with my clients to determine the best next steps for them.

Often it can feel like everyone is doing better than you are. You may be looking around, comparing yourself to others and wonder, “Why am I not as happy as everyone else? What am I doing wrong? Is there someone to blame? Am I to blame? Am I not good enough? Is my body broken, my mind, or my heart?” In my practice I specialize in working with people who often find that no matter how hard they try, they feel like they are never good enough. This may be during a break up, job transition, infertility, during the changes of
pregnancy
,
postpartum
, and motherhood, or even during traumatic grief and loss.

I hope to partner with you! I will offer clinical expertise in
perinatal
issues, trauma, and attachment. I lean into my own lived
perinatal
experiences within the client-therapist dynamic. What I have found matters most is finding someone to walk alongside you. We are wired for connection, and despite what the movies portray the fertility,
pregnancy
and/or
postpartum
experience to look like, it can be a time where you feel cut off from others and yourself in unexpected ways. Previous
pregnancy
loss and
miscarriage
can also impact an experience we’ve longed for.

I am a doctoral-level psychologist specializing in trauma resolution, attachment-related issues, relationship problems, and
postpartum
mood disorders. I facilitate healing by helping people connect deeply to themselves and others. People tend to seek me out when they feel stuck with their suffering and difficult feelings, and I imagine this is the case with you too. You've tried lots of things to move forward from the residuals of disappointing relationships, traumas, or depression and anxiety, but it isn't happening. Relief has been only temporary at best.

What are the most effective ways to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns?
The most effective way to address pregnancy, prenatal, and postpartum concerns is by finding a therapist who has prior experience helping other patients overcome the challenge being faced. For example, a marriage and family therapist may have experience helping couples adjust to their new relationship dynamic. An anxiety specialist may have experience helping with phobias or illness anxiety related to the child’s health. A depression specialist may have experience treating postpartum depression.
When should I seek treatment for prenatal or postpartum concerns?
Pregnancy and the postpartum period involve intense physical and mental changes; a degree of upset and instability is normal. However, if these changes impair daily functioning, it may be time to seek help. This distinction is pertinent for postpartum depression: A period of teariness, irritability, and distress is difficult but normal in the one to two weeks after childbirth (sometimes called the “baby blues.”) But if feelings of sadness and hopelessness persist beyond that period, the person should seek treatment.
How do I manage worries during pregnancy or the postnatal period?
A therapist can help patients develop the tools they need to manage anxieties during or after pregnancy. Cognitive behavioral therapy can help people identify and reframe harmful patterns of thought, and change their behaviors. Other techniques and skills can allow people to develop acceptance, psychological flexibility, self-compassion, communication skills, and more.
Are there specific medications for postpartum depression?
In 2019, the FDA approved the first medication designed to treat postpartum depression. The medication is called brexanolone and is delivered intravenously by a medical professional over the course of a few days. However, typical antidepressants, which are more accessible, can also treat postpartum depression. The disorder is often best treated through a combination of medication and therapy.
