I whole-heartedly believe in the power of positivity. Individuals, couples, and families who come to my office are generally in some sort of pain or discomfort, moving back and forth between what is happening in their lives and what they want from life. Our conversations help shed light on why this is happening and what we can do to help you feel better. Although I use a variety of psychotherapeutic methods in my practice, the foundation of my work is in the relationship we create, the trust we establish, and the compassion we share. I welcome you to my practice.

Time is our most valuable commodity. I work with individuals and couples to support them in making growth choices. This enhances their time wherever it is spent, such as in relationships, career, with family, or enjoying hobbies and recreation. Dr. Caldwell is not available for new patients at this time, but her associates all have space for new patients and are trained in psychotherapy to include emdr and couples therapy, and most types of psychological testing. Please schedule new appointments online on our website through the link provided in this ad.

Many of us carry heavy emotions all by alone, whether it’s stress from caregiving, family conflicts, cultural transitions, or silent pain after relationship changes. It can be so overwhelming sometimes that it is hard to just catch a break. You may have been told to just keep powering through even when you are already burnt out. But you don't have to do all of this by yourself. I understand how much courage it takes to actually seek professional help, especially if you’ve spent years putting others first. Together, we’ll uncover your inner strength, foster resilience, and move toward clarity, healing, and growth.

I work with children, teens, college students, and young adults. With kids, I use play therapy to help them share feelings, manage stress, and build coping skills. I often support clients with ADHD, anxiety, behavior challenges, and family stress. Teens come to me for help with friendships, identity, and school pressure. I also work with young adults navigating independence, life transitions, and healing from trauma. My goal is simple: to create a safe space where you feel heard, supported, and able to grow.

Are you concerned that your substance use is causing some problems for you? Substance use is on a continuum, with abstinence on one end and severe abuse, or addiction, on the other. Historically, approaches to substance use treatment have been binary—you either use or you do not. While this approach is effective for some people, for most it feels restrictive and at times punitive. The goal of therapy is for you to determine—you may want to examine your use, minimize it, work toward ceasing use all together or even maintain positive changes you have already made.

Most people don’t even realize how close they are to burning out… until the cracks start showing. From the outside, people think you’ve got it handled—career, family, responsibilities. But inside? Things are slipping. You’re tired and overwhelmed. You’re not sleeping. You’re doing whatever you can to keep moving, but you know you’re neglecting yourself. And when you neglect yourself, everything else eventually pays the price. If you’ve noticed yourself pulling away… numbing out… overworking… losing patience… or just not feeling like you used to be, it’s time to pay attention. You can’t protect what you don’t understand.

Positive Psychology Therapists

How does positive psychology therapy work?

Positive psychology therapy derives from the work of Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. He and others developed the field of positive psychology building on humanistic theory. Positive psychology therapy is similar to acceptance and commitment therapy, and it essentially quiets emotional distress through positivity, contentment, and well-being. This therapy does not reduce the individual to symptoms and conditions.

When do I know if I need treatment using positive psychology?

If an individual is overwhelmed by emotional distress and general negativity, they may feel trapped. A positive psychology therapist can help them view their emotions and behaviors differently, and approach life with a better understanding of their positive strengths. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from positive psychology therapy?

The patient may be asked to explore their signature strengths. The therapist will also ask the individual to talk about their goals, which should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Discussing negative experiences and symptoms is important, but so is the exploration of positive experiences. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more positive and fulfilling way. This therapy is proactive and may use forgiveness, gratitude, hope, and compassion to help reframe negativity.

Is positive psychology effective in therapy?

Positive psychology therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with eating disorders benefit from this type of intervention. This therapy encourages the person to reframe their distressed thoughts and move into healthier patterns of functioning. This therapy also aims to move an individual toward what works well in their life. Positive psychology therapy can elicit lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
