If you feel like you’ve tried every "calm-down corner," sticker chart, and deep-breathing exercise only to end up back at square one, you aren’t alone. You don’t need years of talk therapy to see a shift in your home. You need a battle-tested plan and the confidence to lead it. I work with motivated parents who are ready to trade "hope it works" for "know it works." Using scientifically backed strategies that have been refined by real families, we’ll map out why meltdowns are happening and build a roadmap to stop them.

I work with children, teens, parents, young adults, and families (nuclear, separation/divorce, and blended). Counseling is BIG stuff, and it takes courage to start the process. I believe that each of us has the ability to make powerful, positive, growth-oriented changes in their lives. I strive to build a relationship of trust with my clients so we can tackle life's chaos and challenges. Unique to me, I like to employ humor into my sessions and engage with my clients through different modalities aside from traditional talk therapy including games, art, music, and writing.

Being a parent is hard. We want our children to succeed in all areas of their lives, but sometimes we find ourselves dealing with difficult behaviors, such as defiance, tantrums, and meltdowns. We watch them struggle at home, at school, and with other kids. We talk to our friends, try a range of strategies, and still feel lost when all the traditional approaches don't help. That's why our experienced therapists are so glad that we can offer Parent-Child Interaction Therapy (PCIT), an extremely effective evidence-based treatment designed to help you connect with your child and reduce behavior problems and distress in 3-4 months.

My ideal client is one who is ready to begin the journey towards a better functioning family, and/or a happier life. That person wishes to move through their past experiences and begin the healing process. Healing may require a level of discomfort, but my ideal client has likely been uncomfortable before. That person is ready to feel safe and find the strength and comfort to provide connection with this clinician needed for goals like improved intimacy, decreased sadness or motivation, work-life balance, couples, family of origin issues, and trauma. I enjoy working with the LGBTQAI+ community.

Have you ever felt helpless, lost, or confused as a parent? Felt overwhelmed by the daily decisions we face as parents compounded by the number of differing opinions on how to be a good parent? Alongside the intense love a parent feels for their child can also come worry, fear, and a deep desire to do everything that we can to nurture their development. Watching your child struggle at school, be rejected by friends, hurt themselves, or explode with anger can feel like an open wound that will not heal. A journey this important should not be undertaken alone.

When you're carrying the weight of past experiences, current stressors, or emotional pain, it’s easy to feel alone or misunderstood. Sometimes, even one more challenge can be enough to make you pause and wonder if you need support. If you’ve found your way here, you’re already taking a meaningful first step.

Pain, mental suffering, and relational anguish are a part of life. The question is, what are these experiences saying for you? Desire might be inhibited, hidden by anxiety, or revealed through a symptom, but living without it seems impossible. Psychoanalysis is the process of finding out how to live with what cannot be lived without.

If you’ve been holding it together while feeling anxious, overwhelmed, exhausted, or stuck, therapy can give you a place to slow down. I work with adults navigating chronic illness or pain, anxiety, burnout, and major life changes—especially when you’re tired of feeling like you need to push through. Living with chronic illness, pain, anxiety, or depression can affect more than your physical health. It can bring frustration, uncertainty, grief, and the challenge of adjusting to a life that looks different than you imagined. Therapy can help you process these experiences, reconnect with what matters, and move forward meaningfully.

Oppositional Defiance (ODD) Therapists
What is the most effective treatment for oppositional defiant disorder?
The treatment of Oppositional defiant disorder (ODD) will involve multiple approaches designed to help both the youngster and their parents, sometimes including medication. A therapist will help a child learn ways to regulate their emotions, curb their impulsiveness, and counteract anger, defiance, and disruption, while showing parents ways to bring these lessons into their home. A technique designed for children with conditions like ODD, known as Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS), may also be used. CPS addresses a child’s concerns and rewards appropriate responses while discouraging harsh punishment or criticism.

How does treatment for oppositional defiant disorder work?
Treatment for ODD addresses the issues underlying a child’s defiance and disruption, the emotional regulation and impulse-control skills they lack, and the way adults respond to them. ODD therapy is based on the idea that children with the disorder understand the difference between right and wrong, that they want to behave well, and that, with help, they can. By responding to the child with empathy instead of harsh criticism, ignoring nonviolent behaviors, and rewarding positive actions, a therapist, and the other adults in a child’s life, can help children improve their behavior.

How long does therapy for oppositional defiant disorder take?
Therapy for oppositional defiant disorder is not a short-term undertaking. Depending on the severity of a child’s symptoms, their age, the presence of other conditions like ADHD, anxiety or a mood disorder, and their family dynamic, it can take months before improvement is noted. The cooperation of parents and teachers is crucial, because the skills learned in therapy must be practiced in real-world situations, with all their potential triggers.

Does oppositional defiant disorder go away?
ODD can remit following treatment. ODD is often diagnosed in nursery school, and early intervention is essential for a positive prognosis. In two-thirds of children, according to the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, symptoms resolve within three years.
