I work with couples, families and individuals, to improve communication and reduce conflict in their relationships. Certified as an IMAGO Relationship Therapist and trained in PACT, as well as in Family Systems, I help clients to create secure attachment as adults. My services may be especially helpful if you find yourself stuck in an unbalanced partnership with someone who is toxic or
narcissistic
. Additionally, I work with clients navigating difficult life changes, that might include separation, divorce, infidelity, illness, aging, regrets, retirement and/or the passing of a loved one. Life can be difficult, and therapy can help.

I had a psychology practice in Austin for 20 years, relocating to Albuquerque in 2012. As an outgrowth of my continuing work with clients from Texas, I have developed a specialty in providing internet therapy. My specialties include eating disorders, complex mood disorders, personality disorders, recovery from
narcissistic
abuse, and helping families with "failure to launch" young adults. I also provide consultation to parents who are struggling with an oppositional adolescent or an adult child with ongoing difficulties. I provide both therapeutic and forensic psychological evaluations.

I'm an experienced therapist helping clients cope with childhood trauma and those entrapped in the cycle of mentally and emotionally abusive, manipulative relationships that destroy their sense of worth, safety and sanity. Clients reach out after years of unsuccessfully trying to satisfy their partners or family members and wonder if their loved one is
Narcissistic
or Borderline. They feel perpetually exhausted, anxious, numb, frazzled, confused, guilty, hopeless, ashamed, inadequate, emotionally unfulfilled, frustrated, walking on eggshells. They may habitually self sacrifice and prioritize others’ needs, yet feel like a failure.

I have also helped many people heal from
narcissistic
abusive relationships, sexual assault, anxiety and depression.
I do not shy away from clients who are truly frustrated with life and not sure how to continue on the journey alone. This planet is a tough one to be on right now and a therapeutic relationship can be a saving grace. No matter what the issue, I help clients tap into their own intuition as well as my professional insight to move matters forward. I typically explore body-mind constructs and stay curious about how the concept of energy plays into every day life. I believe trauma is a predecessor to many mental health issues, so I'm always focused on creating a safe place to explore healing the mind and body.

I believe relationships define each of us and form the foundation for our life. I work from a systemic perspective with couples, individuals, and families to create relationships that define not only who we are, but also who we desire to become. I help clients with their relationships, intimacy, connection, communication, and sexual compatibility. I work with a lot of women who have suffered from
Narcissistic
abuse in relationships and family of origin. I also help those who are confused in their current relationships. I enjoy helping women who have autoimmune disease and cancer redefine their sexuality, relationships and desire.

Please note that all my sessions are now via video. I think therapy is about change. Sometimes the change is simply accepting yourself more. Sometimes it's changing your situation. A lot of times it's changing how you work with your situation, such as relationships, finances or your own emotions. I love to work with clients who are hungry for change. Together we can figure out HOW to get you that change. Like most therapists, I enjoy working on relationship issues. I probably enjoy more than most working on how to deal with your emotions (how can I best handle my anger? vulnerability?) and on self-acceptance.

For three decades I have been meeting with individuals, couples and groups to generate the process of healing restorative change. Relationally dynamic, I learn of you, with you. This process is ever changing and yet maintains a reliable constancy. It's compelling to be part of a process in which people, even after great hurt and disappointment, can safely access their vulnerability and regain courage. In time this enables them to become intimate with themselves and those they love, and pursue their own dreams. I'm receptive to the diversity of our human experience, have expertise with LGBTQIA and invested in decolonizing therapy.

Narcissistic Personality (NPD) Therapists
What type of therapy is best for narcissistic personality disorder?
Narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is best treated with talk therapy, which could involve cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, schema therapy, gestalt therapy, or similar approaches. A therapist will help a patient uncover the feelings that may drive their behavior and discover how to engage with themselves and those around them with greater empathy and understanding, fewer demands, and less defensiveness, with the goal of developing a more authentic sense of self that enables healthier relationships.
How do therapists treat NPD?
By developing a strong therapeutic relationship, and continually focusing patients on relationships, community, and connection, a therapist, through talk therapy, may be able to help someone with NPD change. In sessions, a therapist will help an individual achieve relief from their current stressors, including the treatment of co-occurring conditions such as anxiety or depression. A therapist may also help an individual to recognize unhealthy coping mechanisms, learn new ways of interacting with others, and eventually become able to feel and display empathy.
Can a narcissist be cured with therapy?
Therapy can be effective. After a serious setback or great loss, someone with NPD may be forced to recognize that they are not immune to life’s challenges. That can spur feelings of melancholy and depression that lead them to seek professional help. Once an individual decides to seek help, they have already taken a step that the majority of those with NPD never will. Still, people with NPD often quit therapy as they naturally resist feeling vulnerable, being challenged, or admitting to flaws.
How can you get narcissistic personality disorder treatment for someone?
It is notoriously difficult to convince someone with NPD to seek help. With their feelings of superiority, they may be unlikely to recognize or acknowledge that they have a problem, or that their problem is narcissism. Sometimes, they are aware that they are arrogant and that others resent them but they don’t see it as a problem because they are convinced of their superiority. People with NPD have trouble maintaining relationships, but family members and others who do feel close to them, and whose presence they value, may be able to encourage them to seek therapy.
