Hi, I’m Mira, a licensed therapist passionate about helping people navigate life transitions, heal from past wounds, and build healthier relationships with themselves and others. Life’s challenges can feel especially heavy when you’re navigating societal or family expectations. As the daughter of immigrant parents, I understand the complexities of inter-generational trauma. The weight of cultural and societal expectations can take a toll on one’s mental health. Family & religious pressure can also have a negative effect on our own identity and self-perception.

When people understand how trauma has changed them they can begin to change themselves. In therapy, you will discover the faulty thoughts and behaviors that persists and replace them with healthier alternatives. Therapy works best if its molded to your unique past, culture, attachment style and personality type.

You’re tired of doing so much to the point where you feel burnt out, while still feel like what you’re doing isn’t enough. Sound familiar? This is such a common experience in today’s culture and society, and that doesn’t mean we need to normalize it! You want to feel grounded, connected, and supported in your relationship with others and yourself, but never learned how to be nice to yourself growing up.

Humans are complicated beings – we are woven tapestries of our various identities, experiences and beliefs. Therapy is a place where all aspects of yourself are welcome—fears, embarrassments, longings and resentments, as well as strengths and gifts. First and foremost, I care deeply about the unique journey each client travels. Through providing a safe, non judgmental space where clients can cry, laugh, vent, etc., I am driven to support clients in navigating systemic inequities that can profoundly affect mental health. I use a culturally sensitive, trauma-informed approach and enjoy bringing in aspects from all life phases.

When you’re going through a rough time, it can be hard to have hope that things will get any better. Whether you’re struggling to overcome trauma, let go of your worries, regulate your mood, improve your relationships, gain a greater understanding of yourself, or achieve other personal goals, talk therapy is an incredibly effective method of treatment. I believe in the importance of being true to yourself and living authentically; when you do not act in accordance to your values, it can cause a lot of discomfort. Engaging in therapy involves exploring the real you, the person you are at your core.

“It’s always best to believe in one’s self, but a little help from others can be a great blessing!” I view each person as the main character in their book of life. Each book contains stories of joy, sadness, exploration, struggle, and most importantly: HOPE. My goal is to assist in exploring these stories, whether you encounter depression, anxiety, life transitions, relationship issues, intersectional struggles, or self-esteem issues. I am especially sensitive to those impacted by LGBTQ issues, religious minorities, activists, uniformed public servants, and those experiencing depression.

Ever since I was a nursing student, I’ve been captivated by the power of genuine connection in mental health care. Over the past 15 years, I’ve immersed myself in everything from critical care to research on disorders like schizophrenia and depression—all to better serve each person I meet. By truly listening, I tailor treatment to the individual rather than just the diagnosis. My style is both empathetic and straightforward, so you know exactly what to expect as we work together. Ultimately, my goal is to help you feel seen, heard, and hopeful about your next steps.

You’re successful in many areas of life, but your relationships feel frustrating, confusing, or empty. Maybe you’re a high achiever who always puts others first and ends up drained. Maybe you survived trauma or narcissistic abuse, and the pain still echoes in your connections. Despite your efforts, you keep repeating the same patterns and you wonder, “Why can’t this change?” It’s not your fault. You can create relationships that feel safe, real, and fulfilling. I’m here to help you get there.

Muslim Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

A culturally sensitive therapist will be respectful of faith, race, sexual orientation, gender, age, disabilities, or anything that is relevant to an individual’s reasons for seeking therapy. This mental health practitioner will therefore be able to recognize the role of faith in a client’s life, and they can appreciate the cultural values and beliefs of others. Cultural sensitivity on the part of the therapist may enhance the possibility of a strong therapeutic bond, even if the clinician does not have an extensive understanding of a client’s background before therapy begins.

How might I inquire about a therapist's experience with Muslim clients?

It is best to ask directly whether a therapist has worked with Muslim clients, and if so, the extent to which cultural or religious principles factored into their work together. You can also ask whether a therapist who is familiar with Islamic practices, values, and beliefs incorporates them into their professional work, and if so, how. If the therapist does not have a sufficient knowledge base, they may well know and can refer you to someone who has such experience.

What if the therapist does not have my exact background?

It is not necessary for a therapist to share one’s exact religious background for therapy to be successful. A qualified and culturally sensitive therapist will appreciate diversity within the Muslim community as well as diversity overall, and will have a sense of how religious and cultural issues can contribute to mental health. In addition, a good therapist would be willing to learn from their clients.

How do I recognize an effective Muslim therapist?

Like all therapists, a Muslim therapist who is effective will have the requisite training and expertise in evidence-based techniques, as well as the ability to connect with you on a personal level. An effective Muslim therapist may also demonstrate a clear understanding of your cultural background and faith. A therapist with such cultural sensitivity will set the stage for a strong therapeutic alliance.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of the Muslim faith?

The directory of Muslim therapists includes mental health providers who have shared their cultural background in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist with a similar background. However, not all therapists choose to disclose this information, and they may not appear in search results for this reason. When the number of therapists identified as Muslim is limited, the directory will also show therapists with extensive experience working with clients from relevant backgrounds.
