I use EMDR and Internal Family Systems as the primary approach to working with individuals experiencing the impact of complex trauma, anxiety, depression, and shame.
Navigating life's complexities can sometimes feel overwhelming. Are you struggling with persistent anxiety, a heavy cloud of depression, or the challenges of relationship distress? Perhaps you're finding it challenging to cope with daily pressures, experiencing mood swings, or struggling to connect with those you care about. These experiences can be deeply painful, impacting every aspect of your life, from your sleep and work to your sense of self and your connections with others.

The world is becoming more complex as we are expected to do more with less time and energy. What if you were already coping with difficulties from a not so distant past? With my own history of self worth/doubt, health issues and being told "I don't belong here", I can vividly remember the frustration and loneliness of trying to "live your life" while feeling excluded. I draw from this to empathize and build a mutual understanding of "now" and create a path to a more authentic version of "you." We often look to the past to find origins of problems, but its equally important to dig through our history to find gems of resilience.

I see individuals and relationships primarily working through issues of identity, sexuality, attachment, complex trauma, and relationship difficulties. My approach is warm and caring, but straightforward when necessary. I work through an attachment lens, as the research shows that our relationships with our early caregivers informs how we attach to those we love as adults. This means we may not only explore your current hurt, but the root of where that pain comes from. Through somatic techniques, I help my clients become more comfortable accessing and learning from their emotions, experiences, and body's signals.

I help people see the bigger picture of how family and relationship patterns shape their lives and choices. My style is down-to-earth, collaborative and at times, direct —somewhere between therapist and coach—so sessions feel both supportive and practical. I work especially well with couples, men who want to grow in how they show up in relationships or the dating scene and women struggling with their partners in the post child launch stage of relationship.

I would describe my therapy style as integrative, collaborative, and eclectic. I meet clients where they are and work together to identify goals for their empowerment journey. I integrate various modalities, including expressive arts therapy, psychodynamic therapy, and internal family systems, to address each person’s needs holistically. My goal is to create an affirming, safe, authentic, and nonjudgmental space where you feel comfortable exploring the therapeutic process. Therapy can feel overwhelming, so being able to fully express yourself is vital to healing.

It takes immense courage to show up for yourself and confront parts of you that have been silenced, hurt, or forgotten. My aim is simple: to help you reclaim the relationship you have with yourself. Trauma often rewrites our internal narratives, shaping how we view our worth, our bodies, and our place in the world. But change is possible. Through therapy, we can start to rewrite the script, cultivating deep self-compassion and shifting narratives that keep us from embracing our fullest selves. Rooted in anti-oppressive values, I create a space that acknowledges systemic barriers while supporting self-discovery, healing and growth.

Welcome! Whether you are coming to therapy with a specific goal in mind or simply seeking a space to feel heard and supported, I would be honored to be part of your journey. Our experiences deeply shape how we relate to ourselves and others. Early adversity, trauma, self-criticism and negative messages from others can thwart our natural tendency towards growth. Therapy can provide a safe environment to work through challenges and enhance growth. As a therapist, I try to help people access and process difficult feelings, develop self-compassion and self-care, and deepen their connection with themselves and others.

Many people I work with carry the weight of past trauma—whether from childhood neglect or abuse, difficult relationships, or experiences that left them feeling unsafe. To cope, you may have learned to put others first, people-please, stay hypervigilant, or shut down your own emotions. These patterns once protected you but can leave you feeling disconnected from yourself. My work isn't focused on quick fixes, but rather on helping you slow down, notice what’s happening in both mind and body, and rediscover your own sense of safety and wholeness.

I believe that we can make many changes in our lives in a myriad of ways. We can make changes within ourselves by breaking negative thinking patterns, learning new ways to manage and react to feelings, or by changing behavioral habits. We can also makes changes in our physical and social world, and I seek to help you make decisions and find solutions by identifying realistic, practical, acheivable goals. Core to my practice is a belief that therapy does not need to be painful to be effective, and that smaller changes lead to more and bigger changes.

I'm Ciara, and I’m a graduate-level student counselor under the supervision of Wanda Hudson, M.Ed, LPC. Growing up as a Chicana, I witnessed both the resilience and challenges of my community. These experiences shaped my passion for supporting others through their own journeys. In our sessions, I strive to create a safe, inclusive space where you feel heard, respected, and empowered. Together, we can explore how your experiences, relationships, and culture have shaped who you are today; and how you can build coping skills, confidence, and resilience

As a trauma-informed IFS (Internal Family Systems) Trained therapist, I will work with you from a holistic framework that is guided by your specific needs.
We all do the best we can to cope, but sometimes our efforts throw us out of balance. I work with individuals who are feeling the impacts of these imbalances viscerally, either people who are analytically minded who feel emotions are a hinderance or people who are highly sensitive whose feelings can act like an overwhelming tidal wave. Our imbalances can manifest in depression, anxiety, overwhelming stress, or a dissatisfaction with relationships. In our work together you can expect for us to create treatment goals guided by your core values that move you towards clarity and growth.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
