I primarily work with anxious and/or depressed adults who are experiencing symptoms related to life transitions, past trauma relationship issues, existential concerns, family concerns, and work-related stress. The goals we work towards include learning how to accept, track, and process emotions. Clients are encouraged to connect on a deeply compassionate level with all the different parts of themselves in order to move towards a more integrated and authentic sense of self.

I use a variety of approaches developed over 40 years of clinical practice. Family systems approaches have been one of the main foundations of my work. I have extensively studied different hypnotic approaches to psychotherapy for 30 years. It is an invaluable aid for understanding my clients and helping those master new cognitive, emotional, and behavioral skills. Especially important in my development is the work of Milton H. Erickson, M.D, who was a leader in conceptualizing and expanding the uses of hypnosis. I promise to help work on your problems in a comfortable atmosphere of respect, competence, and collaboration.

As we try to concur life's ups and downs and attempt to figure out who we are. We run into roadblocks. Life is about struggles, barriers, and journeys, and sometimes we face things that seem too hard to overcome. Just know, you don't have to do this alone, part of being strong is asking for help or guidance. People deal with depression, anxiety, and trauma, which makes us who we are. The biggest part of the struggle is fighting our own internal demons. It's time to take hold of what you want and fight for yourself.

I aim to create a safe, warm, empathetic space to help clients work through life's struggles. I believe that it is important to not only identify areas of growth in therapy but to also identify areas of strength; this is especially important with children and adolescents. I take a collaborative and systemic approach when working with youth; my belief is that including all parts of the child's life are important for healing. I believe in the power of expressive tools, activities, and play therapy because not all children and adolescents enjoy or are able to engage in talk therapy.

After learning how to cope with my own mental health issues in a healthier way, I decided it was time for a career change. As a result, I went back to graduate school in 2013 to obtain my MSW from the University of Texas at Arlington. I completed graduate school in 2015 and obtained my LCSW in 2017. Since obtaining my MSW, I have worked extensively with those who struggle with co-occurring mental health and substance abuse issues, and have had the privilege to work with clients in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

Therapy is an invitation to explore past and present experiences and relationships in a safe, supportive environment. I believe in the healing power of feeling connected-connected to oneself and connected to others. I believe this sense of connection derives from one's ability to know oneself more deeply, accessing different levels of awareness through mindful presence and inner exploration. I see my clients as the experts on their lives and experiences and view therapy as a place that allows us to express our natural power to heal and grow. I

I am a licensed clinical social worker offering in-person and telehealth video sessions for clients in Texas. I have learned that in therapy, building a relationship of trust, openness, and comfort is of the utmost importance to healing and growth. This relationship empowers one to practice how it feels to authentically "show up" with others and with one's self. I hope to build a strong relationship with you where I can provide a safe space for you to work through difficult situations and gain a better understanding of your emotions. I believe that you are the expert of your own life, and I am simply a guide on your journey.

How can I find a therapist in Austin?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the United States, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist, psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
