Some areas of passion I enjoy working with include identity formation, emerging adulthood, LGBTQ, religious deconstruction/reconstruction, coping with work-related stress, sexual shame/trauma, self-esteem issues, relationship stressors, and life transitions.
It’s my honor and privilege to walk with clients on their inward journey toward growth, self compassion, and healing. I firmly believe in the fundamental connection between the body, mind, and spirit. Neglecting any aspect of our holistic self means overlooking the abundant wisdom within each of us. We will delve into the intricate interplay between thoughts and emotions throughout our time together, drawing from mindfulness-based techniques, somatic experiencing, Person-Centered therapy, EMDR, and Internal Family Systems principles.

Specialties include BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, & other People of Color) Therapy; LGBTQIA+ Affirming Care (including Gender Affirming Surgery Evaluations & Letters); Relational Concerns (e.g., romantic, platonic, professional, etc.); Body Image, Fatphobia, and Weight Stigma.
Are you looking for an inclusive, culturally aware, and relationally focused therapist? Many of the concerns that clients bring up in therapy often involve challenges related to their various identities (e.g., race/ethnicity, gender, sexuality, body size, etc.) and/or the quality of their relationships. When describing their experiences with previous therapists, many clients have expressed things to me like, “my therapist just didn’t get me", and as a result, find themselves wanting to be seen and affirmed. As part of my practice, it’s important to me that I hold a deep understanding of your story, worldview, and experiences.

As a Queer, Black woman, I understand too well the difficulty of finding welcoming spaces that center the voices of our communities.
Have you struggled with self identity or making sense of your experiences? Have you experienced trauma based on your race, gender, or other intersectional identities? Have you struggled to find spaces where you feel empowered or a sense of belonging? If so, I want to say that you are not alone in your struggles and I am proud of you for making the first step in seeking help! Often times, when you have experienced trauma, it can be difficult to find spaces where you can shift through your emotions safely, explore your lived experiences, or feel connected to others/yourself.

As a transgender, queer, and neurodivergent person myself, I am in this field to support you.
Let's decolonize mental health. Your well-being should not come at the expense of authenticity. No matter where you are in your life, the world can feel isolating and exhausting, especially when we do not fit neatly into narrow roles we are told are acceptable. Through connection and community, we develop the skills and language to describe our experiences. You get to define the terms of your own existence, you may already have the words or they could be difficult to find. Our therapeutic connection can provide a space for you to feel safe and supported in creating your space in the world.

My work is informed by mind-body connections, queer theory, and intersectionality.
Hi! I'm a relational/attachment-based, non-pathologizing, trauma-aware, and culturally affirming therapist for 2SLGBTQ+ folks, first gen, children of immigrants, and bicultural people and expats. I work with teens, young adults, and adults who are looking to explore their identity and/or manage anxiety, panic attacks, acute trauma, complex PTSD, intergenerational trauma, relationship stressors, and life transitions. We do a lot of identity work here - exploring who YOU are, and not just who other people want or expect you to be. Cycle-breakers, free spirits, and recovering people-pleasers are all welcome!

As a queer and neurodivergent therapist, I am passionate about creating a safe, affirming space for the LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent communities.
In individual therapy, I support folks exploring sexual or gender identity and those seeking a welcoming space with a queer therapist. I also thrive in working with anxious individuals—because who isn’t feeling a bit anxious in today’s world?—and those curious about better understanding themselves and the interconnectedness of our world.

I specialize in substance use and harm reduction, LGBTQIA+, and spirituality, providing both individual and group work.
I believe that all individuals have the capacity to self-heal. A supportive and respectful therapeutic relationship can be the perfect catalyst for growth and change. Through a guided and collaborative approach, we can discover why we fall into the same patterns, often reliving past hurts, and develop practical strategies for choosing to live life differently. By exploring vulnerability and tapping in to our creative, authentic selves, lasting change can occur.

As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, a survivor of religious trauma, and someone who suffers from a chronic physical illness, I know that life is full of ups and downs.
You may be thinking, “Ben sounds great and all, but how is this white cisgender man going to be able to understand my experience,” and you’re right! I may not be able to relate with you on every experience, but I know that I can listen, learn, and validate your experiences so that we can develop a therapeutic relationship that allows for positive change.

Areas of focus include anxiety and depression management, trauma recovery, LGBTQIA+ and men's issues, challenging imposter syndrome, reducing feelings of burnout, and supporting parents.
The main goal in therapy seems to be that people want to feel, function, and cope better in their lives and relationships, and the clients I work with are wanting to become more insightful, resilient, and skillful in managing the long-term and daily issues that life can bring their way. Many describe feeling "stuck" or "unable" to make progress or change but they are still motivated to try new things in order to feel better. Others may want to continue building upon previous progress in new ways.

I am a white, queer, neurodivergent individual originally from North Carolina who moved to Texas by way of Portland, Oregon.
I hope you take a moment to recognize how much work you’ve done to get to this place. You’ve survived this long, and you should be proud. For most folks, surviving on its own doesn’t cut it anymore. We need to make some adjustments to sustain a more grounded and full life. I want you to experience collaborative healing that is safe, free of judgment, occasionally humorous, and rooted in kindness and gratitude. I currently practice under Therapy Austin and Central Austin Psychotherapy offering in-person and telehealth services.

LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
