Is the double life exhausting you? You are successful on the outside, though on the inside you are desperately trying to escape compulsions or addictions that you can't seem to break free from no matter how hard you try. Your goals seem out of reach, or even unknowable with the inner conflict competing for your focus and draining your vitality, creativity, and passion. You know your full potential is more than what you are currently experiencing, and hope of experiencing that is starting to wear thin. It is not too late, if you are breathing, hope is still here. I see you in your wholeness, strength, and resilience.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Parts work, EMDR, and Emotionally Focused therapy are a few of the therapies I use frequently with clients.
Everyone deserves to be heard and feel seen. We all have experiences and vulnerabilities that should not diminish our self-worth. I listen to my clients with understanding, patience, kindness, and empathy. Talking to a therapist doesn’t mean you are unusual or broken, it means you care for yourself and recognize the value that therapy can provide. Empowering my clients to navigate their lives with more awareness and tools allows them to grow into the healthiest version of themselves. I am LGBTQIA+ friendly, and I am EMDRIA-trained in EMDR. I see clients online and in-person in South Austin or Round Rock, Texas.

My preferred therapy modalities include Internal Family Systems, EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy, Relational Life Therapy, and Pain Reprocessing Therapy.
Sometimes life brings challenges that are difficult to manage on our own. Maybe you are experiencing a major life transition – a move, marriage, a baby, new job, a medical issue, divorce, retirement. Even "happy" transitions can be difficult. You may want change in your relationship or help determining whether it can be repaired. Perhaps you are dealing with grief from a loss or need support as you navigate having a partner or loved one dealing with addiction. I work with individuals and couples with a wide range of concerns including trauma, relationship issues, depression, anxiety, chronic pain, personal growth, life adjustments.

What is dynamic psychotherapy? It’s therapy that recognizes that symptoms, problems, and struggles have meaning and that learning about their meaning––especially meaning that is outside our awareness––allows us to see our struggles in context and make better choices based on new learning about ourselves. Therapy works best when it feels like a safe place to engage in a process of curious exploration. Through understanding and being understood, most people find they can make clearer choices, take charge of their lives, build healthier relationships.

Your relationship with yourself and others cause you to suffer in ways that your friends can't fully comprehend. Feelings of failure, insecurity, anxiety and depression have left you feeling like a stranger in your own life. You question yourself, wondering if you've done something wrong... whether there's something you should be doing differently. Friends and family are trying to be helpful with their advice, but it often leaves you feeling worse. Some days you have hope and others you feel you are in true despair. You are desperate to make sense of it all, and you don't know where to turn.

I AM NOT CURRENTLY ABLE TO ACCEPT NEW CLIENTS. Reaching out to a therapist for help can be an intimidating process and I strive to provide a safe, non-judgmental environment for adults, children, and teenagers, that makes talking about, and dealing with, deeply personal things less overwhelming. Many of the clients who work with me are struggling to have the kind of life they wish to have. Sometimes this is because of old behavior patterns that aren't working for them anymore, or symptoms or challenges they face because of past experiences that have made coping with current circumstances difficult.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
