Geriatric and Seniors Therapists in Austin, TX

Once I realized the challenges of remaining a teacher and acquiring my hours (3000) for the full license I left teaching work in a geriatric psych hospital as a full time therapist.
Since becoming fully licensed and working with my clients independently I try to take on any situation that presents itself, however, I do have to be aware of my limits. I have had strong success in helping clients get through their depression and learn to manage and reduce the effects of anxiety in their lives.

For 34 years, I've provided individual and group therapy to geriatric, adult, and teen clients in inpatient and outpatient settings, schools and 7 years at military facilities in the US, Japan, and Europe.
I believe the Beatles were onto something when they said, "All you need is love." We often make plans, only to have them derailed by unexpected situations that throw us off balance and lead to dysregulation. Motivation, inspiration, faith, and hope can quickly be replaced by confusion, cynicism, anxiety, depression, or even hopelessness. The reality is that we all need validation—to feel seen and heard. It's often not just the situation itself that causes distress, but the lack of feeling acknowledged and understood afterward that contributes to our mental turmoil.

Over 14 years experience helping adults 20 years and older, including couples.
You’ve been feeling it for a while. This ick, this anxiety, this creeping feeling that you need a change and you need it now. On the surface, your life is ok, but underneath you feel like you are treading water, getting nowhere fast. And to be honest, you are feeling tired and starting to lose the energy to tread.
You’ve tried a little meditation here and there. You go to the gym, do the “self-care” but you seldom really feel good and content. You aren’t sure exactly what you need, if you need a counselor, a coach, a psychiatrist, or a psychologist. But, you know you need something, and you are tired of waiting to fully enjoy life.

My primary focus and passion is working with individuals to dig deep into self discovery, personal growth, and empowerment; to help couples create healthier communication and relational habits while rediscovering the joy of togetherness; and to help older adults work through contemplations of the past, while finding peace and joy in the present.
It takes courage to seek help from someone you likely have not met before. I hope to give you the courage to face your issues by providing a safe and trusting space for your feelings so that together we take a deeper look into some of the painful messages, patterns, and unresolved issues as we move through the process of healing.
