The presence I bring into sessions comes from personal experience with traumatic memory/
amnesia
and spending 10+ years on the client side.
Do you often feel misunderstood? Have you been told to toughen up because you are "too sensitive"? Do you long to feel closer to others but feel overwhelmed by the task? Having the capacity for depth and complexity can be difficult to navigate in our competitive, linear-oriented, results-driven culture. Knowing and accepting yourself for simply "you" (not who others think you should be) is an important practice to cultivate and will help release toxic stress and shame, enabling you to connect more deeply with others.

I practice Emotional Transformation Therapy® (ETT®), a groundbreaking form of psychotherapy that combines talk therapy with light and color treatment. It can relieve anxiety within seconds, resolve emotions holding you back, and produce states of extreme well-being. By using precise visual brain stimulation during distress activation, the parts of the brain responsible for unwanted conditions can be targeted and changed rapidly which results in symptom reduction. The principle of memory reconsolidation is used to produce long-term change of these conditions.

I am an empathic therapist with 16 years therapy experience. Clients often come to me with an impaired sense of self, difficulties in relationships, and feeling unsafe in the world due to trauma and other hardships in their lives. I assist my clients in transforming their deepest pain into their greatest strengths, finding passion in life, and confidence in themselves. They learn to have deep and meaningful relationships. Ideally, clients will move from a limited set of beliefs to an expansive perspective on what is possible in this life. I also love working with therapists; their personal work enhances their own practice!

Most of the patients I work with have been diagnosed with a personality or dissociative disorder and are seeking a more personalized treatment than many cognitive-behavioral approaches, such as DBT, can provide. These disorders develop as a means of survival. Suffering, however, signals that this way of moving through the world is no longer providing protection. My approach takes an in-depth look at the root cause of suffering, creating space to be curious about new ways of moving through the world and connecting with the self(s) and others. I also specialize in working within the trans and non-binary community.

I want to support you to learn how to own all parts of yourself - mindfully, without judgment, and to honor your soul.

I generously welcome you to this process in whatever stage you arrive at - we can work together to figure it all out. I really enjoy working with people in the midst of critical life transitions and on becoming their most authentic selves. And I am happy to work with those clients who feel stuck or who haven't found therapy helpful in the past. I am particularly focused on helping people heal from trauma, with an emphasis on the wounds of early childhood. Change is hard. I approach my life's work humbly, even reverently, with deep sensitivity for what's got you even coming to see someone like me in the first place. I get that, really I do. And I'd love to help. I fit best with people who are okay with ambiguity and can "let the questions breathe," as we work on whatever has brought us together.

Deciding to go to therapy is not an easy thing to do. Women of color are often told to suck it up, get over it, and be strong. But sometimes, being strong means knowing when to ask for help. Being strong means admitting to ourselves that we can't do it all on our own, and that's okay. Oftentimes, we may not even be able to recognize all the difficult situations we've been through and all the challenges we have come up against. Traumatic experiences in childhood and/or adulthood that we have not had a chance to deal with may now be catching up to us.

Dissociative Disorders (DID) Therapists
How does therapy for dissociative disorders work?
Dissociation may be triggered by stress or other upsetting circumstances, and therapy can address the traumatic events at the core of an individual’s dissociation. Understanding why a person may dissociate can help the therapist and the individual come up with alternative methods of coping. A person with a dissociative disorder may get stuck on negative thinking, for example, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a gold standard for breaking such thinking. And dialectical behavior therapy, for example, can help a person manage their anguish through better emotion regulation.
Which therapies are best for dissociative disorders?
Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, schema therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful memories and past traumas. These therapies work to integrate an individual's different identities into one person.
Are there specific medications for dissociation?
There are no specific medications prescribed for dissociative disorders. However, psychosis, depression, anxiety, and/or panic often co-occur in dissociative disorders. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for any accompanying symptom—which may include antipsychotics like aripiprazole, antidepressants like selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or anti-anxiety drugs like benzodiazepines.
How often and how long are therapy sessions?
Like any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. There are still other patients, especially those who have co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, who may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months.
