When seeking care, nothing is scarier to transgender and non binary folx than winding up with a provider who is poorly informed about the issues that face our community. From understanding discrimination and harassment and the various intersectionalities of our personhood to the process of transitioning and navigating this process, having a mental health provider who is affirming and competent makes a huge difference, whether your current mental health concerns are or aren't related to your gender.

You have taken a wonderful first step to figuring out what brings you joy, understanding, hope, and healing. Therapy is a safe space to hold hope. Hope for relief from what life brings you and at times is overwhelming…and hope that you can be heard and validated. My view of counseling is that each client and their story is unique and deserves a collaborative, person-centered approach. My therapeutic approach is based on attachment theory, Gottman Method couple's therapy, interpersonal neurobiology, family therapy models, and trauma modalities such as cognitive processing therapy and EMDR.

Self-discovery is a lifelong process that builds resilience. As we learn about ourselves, we can shift our narrative and feel more empowered. People often seek therapy when they feel stuck in patterns that no longer serve them. Therapy offers the opportunity to become more aware of ourselves and to embrace change and develop a fuller picture of who we are. This process can break the cycle of anxiety and depression and improve relationships. It can also address the needs of athletes and other high achieving individuals who are navigating challenges related to confidence and performance or who are recovering from a setback or injury.

I see therapy as a collaboration between myself and my client. I bring experience, knowledge, empathy, and compassion but I always want to work with you towards what YOU feel is the most important. I value your strengths, insights, and the wisdom of your lived experiences. I love to work with clients who are ready to work together, to give feedback, to try new things, and to engage in honest self discovery. Life brings pain to everyone- but I also believe that we can find resilience even during extremely painful times.

You want a competent sex and relationship therapist who knows what to do for your situation and gets right to the point. Experience and education matter to you because sex, sexuality, and your relationship(s) are important and you are struggling and stressed, and you are nervous about finding a therapist, especially a SEX therapist. You don't even know where to start. Maybe you are in your own individual or relationship therapy but sex and sexuality aren't being attended to or you are seeking additional consultation from a specialist. Or maybe your desires are guiding you to something new and exciting and you need support.

Book with me now by clicking on my website. I understand that clients are experts in their own lives, but sometimes they need help with unwanted thoughts, symptoms, or behaviors. Reaching out for help can be difficult for all kinds of reasons. I want to reassure you with words from Brené Brown “We don’t have to do all of it alone. We were never meant to." I want to help you work on becoming the best version of yourself. Loneliness, social anxiety, and just dealing with a constantly changing world can sometimes make anyone feel out of control. I want to help give you back that feeling of being in control of your life.

Cognitive Processing (CPT) Therapists
How does cognitive processing therapy work?
A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.

What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?
Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.

How long does cognitive processing therapy last?
CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.

How effective is cognitive processing therapy?
A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
