I am allied with all members of the BIPOC community, LGBTQ+, Asian Americans, multiracial individuals, millennials, college students, bicultural individuals, religious minorities, people of size, and first-generation individuals.
Finding the right therapist can be difficult, maybe you have asked yourself questions like “will they “get” me?”, “do they know what it’s like to feel torn in multiple directions?” Or maybe, if you are anything like me, you have asked yourself “is there something wrong with me?”, “where are the therapists that look, even vaguely, like me?” As a half- Asian , bicultural woman of color, I’m passionate about supporting others who live at the intersection of multiple identities.

Additionally, I have a unique emphasis in working with the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) population.
My goal is to support your growth and help you examine the impact of the cultural systems in which we live. I often treat clients who suffer from anxiety and OCD, and I help them understand how cultural systems may have reinforced those conditions. While anxiety is a natural part of the human experience, too much can be maladaptive. Influenced by evidence-based and Buddhist mindfulness approaches, I help clients examine and confront the root cause(s) of their anxiety, find better ways to manage it, and ultimately pursue a life that is consistent with their values.

I have a specific interest in working with survivors of childhood abuse and sexual assault, individuals who are struggling with racial identity and racial trauma, and members of the Asian American community.
I believe that the quality of the relationship with your therapist is fundamental to healing deep emotional pain and can help you grow into your most authentic self. Through genuine and trusting collaboration, I will create a warm, accepting, and empathetic space where you can feel both vulnerable and safe. We will honor your strengths, identify your goals, and examine the thoughts and behaviors that no longer serve you. I acknowledge the importance of your many intersecting identities and unique lived experience, and I utilize an integrative, curious, and compassionate approach tailored to your needs.

I have worked primarily with POC and other American Cultural Minority populations, including South Asian survivors of domestic and sexual violence, LGBTQIA+, and many others. As a second generation South Indian, I have extensive personal and professional experience with model minority stressors, cultural trauma, immigration abuse, religious abuse and various other struggles common for those that identify as a minority in America. I believe that therapy is meant to be a space of mutual collaboration, to help work towards and help understand those aspects of your life that motivated you to seek guidance.

I am multiracial with both Asian and Jewish parents, which has helped me be sensitive to how different our experiences can be within the same macroculture.
The goal is for my clients to walk away with the same curiosity and unconditional positive regard for themselves that I cultivate with them in our sessions. Through the gentle untying of the knots of trauma along with reinforcement of strengths and resources, the internal compass can once again be recalibrated toward joy, with intention and self-compassion. Sessions with me involve curiosity, education, and concrete practices that will help shift your perspective on your internal and external experiences, and give you the knowledge necessary to get you back in the driver's seat of your life.

Therapy is a safe place to explore challenges in our lives & find strengths that we never knew we had. It has the potential to lift us out of our rut so that we can finally make the changes we've longed for. Whether you are working to decrease your anxiety, unmasking and living authentically, changing careers, exploring your gender or sexual identity, or trying to change your relationships, therapy can be a great place to get a fresh perspective & face these challenges with a champion by your side. My own identity as a multiracial, queer, gender nonconforming therapist enables me to understand clients who feel like outsiders.

Asian Therapists

Why is it important for a therapist to be culturally sensitive?

A culturally sensitive therapist would be respectful and considerate of different groups, with regard to race, sexual orientation, gender, and other factors that are important to an individual. These considerations can help a client feel understood as well as validated. While some people think highlighting race could promote stereotypes and bias, more understanding and knowledge about cultural differences is a positive for a healthy therapeutic alliance.

How can I recognize an effective Asian therapist?

You can discern a lot by asking how familiar the potential therapist is with different cultures, as well as asking how they might address issues related to identity, values, and beliefs. Also inquire about their education, as well as any particular training they may have completed, such as cultural sensitivity or diversity and inclusion programs.

What if the therapist does not have my exact background?

The therapist may not share a client’s exact background, but the therapist may have plenty of hands-on experience as well as the sensitivity needed for therapeutic progress. Their sensitivity to different populations will help the client feel accepted and comfortable in sharing their concerns and difficulties.

How might I inquire about a therapist's experience with Asian clients?

A therapist with an Asian background may have experience within their community, as well as broader cultural sensitivity. Ask the potential therapist whether they've worked with individuals who share your background. If they have not worked with similar clients, they may well know someone who has such experience.

Who is included in Psychology Today's directory of Asian therapists?

The directory of Asian therapists includes professionals who have shared their ethnicity in their profiles. Psychology Today uses this information to assist clients in finding a therapist who can provide a cultural match. However, not all therapists choose to disclose their ethnicity in their profiles, and they may not appear in search results for this reason; also, when the number of therapists identified as Asian is limited, the directory will also show therapists with comprehensive experience working with clients from relevant backgrounds.
