ADHD Therapists in Austin, TX
I work with a variety of clients, many with ADHD.
Emotions can get overwhelming and uncomfortable. Sometimes it seems easier to stuff feelings down, dissociate (maybe scrolling), or just power through it. There might be other options! I help couples and individuals unscramble thoughts, work through feelings they've stuffed down, and find ways to reconnect – both with others and with themselves. If you're hoping to improve communication, process trauma, explore differences in how your brain works, or discuss what intimacy looks like in your life, you're in the right place. Choosing the right therapist is daunting, but it's a huge relief once you finally find one who's the right fit.

I work with individuals who may be struggling with depression, anxiety, and/or ADHD.
I work with clients from all walks of life in navigating this chaotic world we find ourselves in. We often rely on coping skills and beliefs about ourselves that reinforce feelings of sadness or worry rather than relieve them just to survive day to day. Through a warm, often humorous, and always open-minded person centered approach, I am here to help you examine what does and does not serve you to create or find new ways to approach life so that you can start thriving rather than surviving.

Helping you navigate relationships, ADHD, and everyday life in a way that actually works for you.
Sometimes in life we find the path forward isn’t as clear as we’d hoped. Family, relationships, work, community, parenting, or fertility struggles can all throw a wrench into the plan, and we need help figuring out where to go next. Often we have to stumble to find the strength to pull ourselves up and find the way forward. You are not defined by the roads you’ve traveled, by your family, your history, or your previous decisions, but they provide the springboard from which to become the person you would like to be. Let me help you explore the path forward, and figure out how to overcome the barriers blocking your way.

Being vulnerable with someone new can be very intimidating, but let me tell you a secret…you can laugh in therapy. I know it sounds crazy, right? But I’m being completely transparent. Some of the best moments in my career have been when we have found humor even while carrying our heaviest burdens.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.
How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioral therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.
Are there specific medications for ADHD?
Medications to treat ADHD are generally stimulants, the most common are Adderall and Ritalin. There are two categories of stimulants: Amphetamines include Adderall, Dyanavel, Vyvanse, and Dexedrine, and methylphenidates include Ritalin, Concerta, Daytrana, Focalin, Quillichew, Quillivant, and Metadate. Non-stimulants and antidepressants may be used as an alternative if stimulants aren’t effective or viable for a particular patient.
How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
