I most commonly draw upon perspectives that focus on mindfulness and acceptance .
When we open ourselves to the pain of the world, we become the medicine that heals the world. I am a bilingual therapist (Spanish & English) and I work with trauma survivors. I believe in the resilience of each person and bring a great deal of my own creativity to sessions. My areas of specialty include childhood trauma resolution, women's issues, racial and cultural identity challenges.

Through awareness of sensations and the subtle needs they reveal, stuck energy from past overwhelming events can shift and release, giving you space to experience joy, ease, fun, rest, confidence, and acceptance in the present.
We are biologically wired from birth to need safe, accepting connections with others. When we get those, we develop openness to relationships and resilience to cope with life’s inevitable pain. If you lacked that support, patterns can develop that inadvertently keep you stuck in pain. These patterns can include self-criticism, worry, anger, lethargy, numbness, shame, guilt, fear of closeness, and more. My work focuses on helping people with past abuse and neglect rediscover their body’s innate ability to rebalance from stress, relate to themselves with more care, and relate to others more confidently and authentically.

My ideal client is human; inherently flawed and curious. This human is seeking collaboration, a non-judgmental space in which to grow, thrive, and learn through relational education between themselves and ultimately with others. The path chosen is ultimately one of healing, reconciliation, acceptance , growth, and forgiveness. The decision made to show up in therapy is a huge first step to move from surviving and stagnation to thriving and introspection. It is my honor whenever I have the opportunity to take this journey with you.

I use my training in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), acceptance and commitment therapy ( ACT ), and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to inform my approach to treatment of mood disorders, anxiety, and difficult behaviors.
Psychotherapy is a collaborative effort, and I encourage my clients to take an active role in making decisions about their treatment. While I make my clients’ goals the focus of their treatment, I also seek to engender in my clients the following abilities: mental flexibility, emotional control, distress tolerance, interpersonal communication, mindfulness, and self-enquiry.

Thank you for taking the time to invest in your mental health. I believe that one’s mental health is equally as important as physical health. With this belief, I decided to devote my time in achieving a doctorate degree in psychology from California School of Professional Psychology. I am a psychologist trained in clinical and forensic psychology. My training and experience have allowed me to develop clinical expertise in treatment modalities that are evidence based, such as CBT and ACT . I also have extensive training in the assessment of psychological concerns including diagnostic clarification and personality functioning.

I use ACT , CBT and other holistic, mindful approaches during sessions.
I'm only accepting telehealth clients and will have availability starting July 2021. I work with people struggling with depression, anxiety, ADHD, addiction and other life challenges. The time you take, as well as, the effort you invest in and outside of therapy may help you realize central themes in your life and what you can to do to create a positive change. As you share with me your personal story/situation, I will help you gain skills and "tools" intended to move you closer towards reaching your personal value based goals.

My commonly used therapeutic modalities are DBT, ACT , CBT and EMDR.
If you are battling an eating disorder, fighting feelings of depression and anxiety, and struggling with self-compassion, I'd love to walk with you as you work to heal. In our sessions, we will explore who you are and what matters to you, we will tackle thought patterns that aren't serving you, and work on new ways to interact with your thoughts and feelings that serve you more effectively. I have found that the clients I am most "in my element" with are teens and young adults. When working with teens, I also work closely with parents to help them navigate supporting their teen at home.

We all do the best we can to cope, but sometimes our efforts throw us out of balance. I work with individuals who are feeling the impacts of these imbalances viscerally, either people who are analytically minded who feel emotions are a hinderance or people who are highly sensitive whose feelings can act like an overwhelming tidal wave. Our imbalances can manifest in depression, anxiety, overwhelming stress, or a dissatisfaction with relationships. In our work together you can expect for us to create treatment goals guided by your core values that move you towards clarity and growth.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Therapists

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
