Past traumatic experiences can significantly impact how we function in the present, affecting our relationships and overall sense of self. This can lead to feeling disconnected, stuck, or emotionally flooded. I aim to provide a safe space that encourages self-exploration for processing past wounds, ultimately leading to self-acceptance. Having worked in diverse settings such as schools, private practice, and the justice system, I understand that the human experience can be painful, and no one should have to endure this pain alone.

Discomfort prompts us to seek change. This feeling may come from an old problem or from old pain that seems to follow you through the years of your life. It may also come from a new problem that has caught you by surprise or left you feeling stuck. Maybe you just feel drawn toward your potential to improve the quality of your life in some way. Together we will tailor the course of counseling to meet your needs and your goals. I strive to create an environment that provides warmth and humor in order to provide the comfort required to address life's difficult problems.

Recovery can simultaneously be the most rewarding and demanding part of your life. It can leave you feeling exposed and raw at the end of the day even though your recovery has shown you are resilient. Recovery from alcohol and other substances involves daily hard work and at times can feel monotonous. Anxiety, depression, relationship issues, and other life struggles just seem to add to an already daunting process. The fear of relapsing into old habits and behaviors can be all-consuming and can cloud your reasons for exploring sobriety in the first place.

Reaching out can be so hard, but it is such an important first step! We are not made to do the hard things alone. More and more research has shown that we are deeply wired for connection and support. The most fundamental human need we have is for relationships. The most overlooked relationship is the one you have with yourself. Counseling is about moving towards healing and growth as we learn to trust ourselves. Your unconscious mind determines how you relate to yourself & to others. Science has shown us how adaptive our bodies and brains are as they change to manage the stress or trauma of our lived experiences.

Hey there! Thank you for visiting my profile, and welcome! There may be many reasons one turns to therapy. Maybe you are experiencing a change or loss, maybe you have gone through an event that has affected your mental health, or maybe it’s just that something doesn't feel right or someone doesn't treat you well. I like to say “the breadcrumbs make the bread" - it is the little things that add up.

I offer a free, 30-minute consultation. Are you feeling off or not quite yourself? Maybe you function well on the outside but inside you feel anxious, depressed, or disconnected. Maybe you're struggling with existential concerns: meaninglessness, death anxiety, feeling lost or isolated. I have found that the most uplifting and healing moments in life occur when we are completely open and exposed to another person and then accepted for who we are. In my practice, I value my clients whole-heartedly and emphasize your autonomy and personal choice. You are the expert on your own life.

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
