Sometimes life robs us of our light. It can happen gradually or suddenly. We might not even know why the light is gone, only that it’s not there anymore. My goal is to enable you to search for and take hold of that light. I work primarily with depression and anxiety as well as spirituality, processing trauma, and family dynamics. I focus on young adults transitioning into new life stages, and adults of all ages who feel stuck in life and unable to access their meaning. Trauma in life can prevent us from finding meaning, keeping us from relating to ourselves or others fully.

Discomfort prompts us to seek change. This feeling may come from an old problem or from old pain that seems to follow you through the years of your life. It may also come from a new problem that has caught you by surprise or left you feeling stuck. Maybe you just feel drawn toward your potential to improve the quality of your life in some way. Together we will tailor the course of counseling to meet your needs and your goals. I strive to create an environment that provides warmth and humor in order to provide the comfort required to address life's difficult problems.

EMDR Certified & IFS Level 2 Therapist. You feel anxious, stressed, constantly on edge, and unable to relax due to persistent worries. Something in you tells you to always prepare for the worst. Highly sensitive, you get hurt easily and the emotions take over leaving you doubting yourself and unable to trust others. Trying to avoid it, keep yourself busy, or think your way out of it isn’t working. Your insecurity tells you to put others first, but then you feel used or taken for granted. You want to be seen, heard, and acknowledged, but you don't feel prioritized by the people you care about most.

I help individuals and couples deal with the natural ups and downs of life, as well as overwhelming experiences like loss and trauma. I believe long-lasting change happens through self-discovery ("when we know better, we do better"). I assist clients in understanding the roots of their struggles and teach coping skills ranging from breath work to establishing healthy boundaries.

Nothing is working. People keep telling me to talk to someone and I don't know why. I don't want to be a burden. Life is overwhelming and we blame ourselves for everything going wrong. For many of us, we try to push through this alone. Suck it up! Get over it! Don't talk about it (especially if you're a man). My goal is to make it easier to be vulnerable and name what we're going through. Whether you're facing depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, or trauma, we will work together to strengthen our ability face life with more compassion, resilience, and openness to ourselves and the loved ones we push away.

Since 2011, I’ve been working as a professional who specializes in helping people cope with their issues in faith-based institutions. I walk alongside with my clients in a way where mercy meets wisdom. No matter whether they are emotional issues or relational issues, I will dedicate myself to listening to your challenges and struggles. I have been through valleys of suffering and pits of darkness in my own life, and all my experiences had made who I am now. I will not hesitate to empower my client by envisioning myself to BE each of them, so that they will know they are not alone anymore, as they now have a fellow traveler in life.

I have spent the last several decades here in Austin working in direct service, mostly in residential settings and primarily with youth ageing out of the foster care system. I work best with people who are navigating challenges and working to improve overall functioning. I tend to take a holistic approach- I want to learn who you are, all aspects of where you are, and most importantly, where you want to go.

I believe that therapy should be a supportive, collaborative and challenging experience of self-discovery and self-acceptance where all emotions, ideas and issues can be explored and new patterns can unfold. Primarily working with adults, I specialize in working with individuals who may have had difficult childhoods and are wondering how those past experiences may be contributing to their current struggles, conflicts, stagnation or chaos.

As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?

There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?

Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?

Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?

Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
