Counseling was once seen as something having to do with weakness. Now it used widely and routinely for gaining strength, new skills, making meaning out of one's life and living one's purpose. Living & loving fully and leading a life that matters has everything to do with finding the right mentors along the way for support and guidance in transforming vulnerability into strength. I help mamas, papas and adults who want proven skills to help themselves &/or their child succeed. And when families & individual adults experience ongoing stress, loss or trauma, having proven skills & tools is even more important--Help is here.

My specialty areas with younger children include:
parent
coaching and psycho education, behavioral issues, bullying/self-esteem, peer conflict, social skills and ADHD and separation anxiety.
It is my mission to team up with children, teens and adults to improve confidence, positivity and emotional regulation. As children, we are taught math, science and reading, but not how to feel or to express our feelings. This can come out as aggression or anxiety or with-drawl. It is my goal to help my clients target problem behaviors, process past events, and learn new skills while providing guidance and support each step of the way.

I am trained and comfortable working with all ages, and many issues, from
parenting
, to anxiety and career choices.
We all go thru periods in life in which we feel lost, or unable to move forward because of life's circumstances, and we need help, but we don't know where to find it.
At these times, getting a professional to help us sort the issues is vital. When we reach out, we are taking the first step in the healing process... But the second step occurs if we have professional support to heal our emotional wounds.
Accepting help, and dealing with our issues takes great courage, and finding a helping soul, leaves us refreshed, and with a renewed sense of purpose.

As a
parent
, you are often trying to find solutions to issues that families that struggling.
I have been serving families for 12 years. I have a passion for counseling adolescents up to adults that are struggling. Children and adults with ADHD often struggle to learn coping skills or self-regulation. Adults diagnosed with ADHD can also benefit from family or individual counseling. The symptoms a child or adult experiences with ADHD does not only effect the person with ADHD but the whole family. In counseling the child or adult skills are learned; such as children learn to calm themselves in different situations, be more self-aware and find words to go with their feelings.

My work focuses on helping people struggling with addiction and/or symptoms resulting from childhood relational trauma Over 25 years of experience, I have seen that childhood experiences of neglect or emotional, physical and sexual abuse can cause serious psychological problems. 'Less than nurturing'
parenting
can cause adulthood anxiety, depression and addiction. Many of my clients have struggled with addictive behaviors using substances (alcohol, drugs) or processes (sex, love, work) to deal with emotional pain. There is a high correlation between painful childhood experiences and addictive behaviors.

I work successfully with youth struggling in their everyday lives. Examples include anxiety over internal conflicts, grades, peers, & parents. I enjoy working with adults as they navigate new transitions i.e. marriage, parenthood or experience the challenges of parenthood. I'm interested in helping individuals & families deal with end of life planning trying to answer the awkward question, "So, what do you want to do?" What life saving measures should be taken if you become ill? What relationships need to be repaired? I want to help facilitate this difficult topic with elderly parents or terminally ill youth.

Parenting Therapists
What does therapy for parenting look like?
Therapists may work with parents individually, together, or include the whole family to find solutions for the problems a parent faces. Many parent-based therapies work on a parent’s relationship with their children, problem-solving within the family, and analysis of family dynamics. Therapy conducted remotely by video may be helpful in allowing a therapist to observe how families interact in their own homes.
When should a parent seek therapy?
When behavioral problems begin to disrupt the healthy functioning of a family, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If parents find that children are acting out in school, have started using drugs or alcohol, have developed eating disorders, or other similar red flags, a therapist may be able to help.
How long does therapy take for parenting problems?
Depending on the severity of a family’s challenges and the type of treatment utilized, therapy for parenting can last from weeks to months. Cognitive behavioral therapy is a pragmatic therapy type that can be brief, most often ranging from between 5 and 20 sessions. Structural family therapy, which inspects family dynamics, often takes several months. Parent-child interaction therapy is typically shorter-term, lasting between 10 and 20 sessions. For any therapy, the duration will depend on the progress made and results realized.
Can therapy help parents dealing with burnout or stress?
Parenting is difficult. Parents may dismiss or conceal feelings of exhaustion, overwhelm, or escape ideation—imagining withdrawing from their parental obligations altogether. but left unattended, these feelings can have negative effects on the whole family. A therapist can help parents work on the skills they might need to better cope with the burdens of parenting and help them be the best parents they can be.
