My background and professional training in
psychodynamic
psychotherapy and drama therapy (a modality of expressive arts therapy), allows me to create a safe, stable and supportive space for individuals to explore emotional pain and trauma, as well as their strength, creativity and potential.
I am a psychotherapist, licensed professional counselor and drama therapist with 16 years' experience working with individuals, couples, families and groups. In this time frame I have had the opportunity to work with a wide range of populations, such as people diagnosed with major depressive disorder, dual diagnosis, bi-polar disorder, borderline personality disorder and eating disorders. I also have experience working with immigrants and minority groups, individuals who experienced trauma, as well as people seeking for growth, personal development and more meaning in their lives. I am fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese.

My approach to therapy is based in relational neuroscience,
psychodynamic
theory, and somatic mindfulness.
Feeling overwhelmed? Maybe you have gotten stuck thinking in circles about problems only to get nowhere and feel worse. You may be feeling scared, enraged, or hopeless. Strong emotions may be frustrating and disorienting. This can make it difficult to communicate with others, leaving you feeling even more alone. Together, we can decipher what messages these strong emotions are sending. I will not try to “fix” or change you. As we build a relationship and you tell your story, I will stay present, listen to understand, and provide warm, direct, and nonjudgmental feedback, allowing you to be exactly as you are.

I navigate from the belief that we all want to see and be seen well and to engage in complete freedom to be all that we are. As a therapist, my hope is that you will find that here. I practice psychotherapy through various modalities including
psychodynamic
, attachment-based, somatic attention, and trauma-informed theories. However, my foundational approach is Relational. I believe that if our wounds begin in relationship, they can only find healing within a restorative one.

Start-up founders often suffer from a great deal of anxiety, depression, stress and isolation. Anger may be a problem for you as well. While we work on these issues, we also work on individual leadership style and visions for the future. Previous or current addictions, broken relationships, and childhood trauma are often present in our work together. A deep understanding of how your past affects your present helps build and create healthy professional and personal relationships. We also examine existential themes in your life: use of power, creating meaning and purpose, responsibility, regrets.

I offer somatic psychotherapy (touch and tablework) for people who are working on trauma, relationship and attachment issues. This work may also bring up family of origin issues that may also be unresolved. I combine somatic, IFS, and attachment modalities. My somatic training also provides expertise in helping those with chronic illness or pain and how this is related to mental health. Somatic work also is for those with after-effects of surgeries or accidents.

Hi there. First, I'd like to wish you well -- especially as you work with a psychotherapist for movement in both your inner and outer lives, including in your relationships. Because each person and each relationship is unique, I've developed a variety of ways to do psychotherapy and relationship therapy that help individuals ascend and help couples relate more smoothly. Working with thoughts and feelings, with mind and with heart, people can move through what is in the way, blocking them from feeling better and being better. I'm honored to help with that movement.

The work of therapy is both present and past. We must gently attempt to answer the question of “How did I find myself here?” There’s no shame in asking for help or inspecting the past for clues. Oftentimes, the roots of our problems run deep into our childhoods, our families, our cultures. Psychotherapy helps us discern what legacy we want to continue.

I specialize in working with individuals who struggle with issues of self-worth and low self esteem. Those negative beliefs color how we see ourselves and how we relate to others, often resulting in a cycle of recurring frustration and depression. Working with you to identify your strengths (even if you've forgotten them), we will collaborate in finding practical ways that can lead to lasting change & happiness. Since I am also an artist, I help you regain your ability to envision how you want to be going forward.

Do you struggle with depressive moods or negative thoughts you wish you could just change or simply make go away? Wanting those dark thoughts to change, or hoping to run away from them, is completely normal. But avoiding those thoughts can leave us even more stressed, irritable, and disconnected from our loved ones. I promote compassion, honesty, and empowerment while working with clients who struggle with a range of issues, including anxiety, depression, and life transitions. I’m especially passionate about helping adolescents, young adults, and LGBTQ+ individuals struggling with mood, personality, and eating disorders.

Your past is invading your present. Your emotions overwhelm you at times. Many of your relationships are unfulfilling - or outright painful. Your self-esteem is low to non-existent, and you often feel you aren’t good enough. Celebrating your successes is hard for you because you feel like you don’t deserve them. Your inner critic is your constant companion. And the worst part is: overcoming these obstacles seems like a huge mountain to climb. You don’t know where or who to go to for help. We all need connection more than ever right now. I’d love to help!

Does it ever feel like no matter what you do it doesn't feel good enough? Maybe it feels like you "should be" a certain way, or that sometimes you feel like just a fraction of your true self. It can be exhausting finding yourself stuck in these cyclical and unwanted patterns of life that can emerge after trauma.

***I am not currently accepting new clients*** Struggling with life transitions, creative ruts, and relationships are difficult in any situation but especially so if you do not follow the heteronormative path. It can be difficult to open up to someone when you are not certain that they understand Queer and Alternative relationship structures. I use an individualized approach with each client to build a therapeutic relationship based on specific goals. I focus my work around issues regarding LGBTQ+, sexuality, non-binary and transgender, complex relationships, power dynamics, sexual health, BDSM/Kink, and other dynamics.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.
How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.
Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.
What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
