Many who come in with anxiety or depression find that digging a bit beyond the surface helps them to begin "taking charge" of what is in control of their life.
Everyone experiences moments where the questions and pain from life can feel like "too much." I love giving people the space they need to explore what is causing the hurt, so that we can work together and find solutions. Sometimes that space or need is the schedule and other times the cost (if not both.) I intentionally keep my office hours open for evening and occasional weekend sessions and my costs are designed to help those in East Texas that may not have insurance or high incomes. Reach out to me and lets explore the "how" of taking charge of your life and your outcomes, regardless of what others may be saying or doing.

You can be the person everyone relies on and still quietly feel anxious, overwhelmed, emotionally exhausted, disconnected, or stuck in patterns you cannot seem to break.
I help adults and teens better understand anxiety, attachment patterns, boundaries, emotional overwhelm, past hurt, and the inner critic that keeps them feeling stuck. Our work is both insight-oriented and practical, meaning we do deeper emotional work while also building tools that actually help in day-to-day life.

Are you worried therapy will feel awkward or that you won't know what to say?
It didn't happen all at once. Gradually, the things you used to enjoy stopped feeling worth the effort. You started cancelling plans, saying no more than you say yes, and spending more time alone. You're exhausted in a way that sleep doesn't fix, and you feel like you're just going through the motions of life. You feel numb, drained, and emotionally disconnected from the ones you love. And you find yourself thinking, "What's the point?" Then hopelessness sets in. You don't have to go through this alone; therapy can help.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
