I have worked with families and individuals dealing with substance abuse issues for many years, and am skilled at making what is seemingly an irrational disorder, more understandable to the individual as well as the family .
I have a straight-forward, solution-based focus on making progress quickly. I am known for helping parents reduce conflicts with their sons, in particular, and have an emphasis on making parenting boys much more enjoyable and effective. I also have extensive experience in helping couples become more understandable to one another, and in providing them with relationship skills which enable both individuals to have their needs met.

During the past ten years I have worked as a clinical social worker in schools and nonprofit organizations, where I have provided both individual and group therapy to individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, life transitions, family conflict, child abuse, and domestic violence.
I have always had a passion for helping people. As a Clinical Social Worker I assist individuals to discover their strengths and solutions to their life's circumstances. I also assist families with achieving healthier relationships, communication, and effective coping skills. I also provide parents with the skills necessary to communicate clearly and effectively with their children. Counseling occurs within a supportive and non-judgmental environment, where clients feel safe to discuss issues within their lives. I assist clients with various therapeutic processes, including solution focused, cognitive behavioral and play therapy.

I find it a privilege to have the opportunity to assist you, your child, your family , or your relationship.
Howdy! The techniques I utilize are from the foundations of Person Centered and Solution Focused Theory with some art therapy mixed in (if you are comfortable with experimenting with creative therapy). During our first session, we will discuss what goals you would like to accomplish during our time together. My philosophy of therapy is, I feel you are the authority in your life and therapy can be a catalyst to identify barriers keeping you from achieving goals. We would be joining together as a team to process, help identify goals, and strategies to hopefully assist in ma

I offer family therapy for children/adolescents and their guardians, as well as individual therapy for adolescents and adults. I specialize in working with families struggling with grief/loss, communication issues, behavioral problems, anger management, trauma/abuse and/or parent-child conflict. Family sessions may be most helpful to parents who feel stuck in their ability to communicate with their loved ones and are willing to work on addressing the problem in a collaborative environment. I view problems through the lens of a systemic perspective, taking into account the how a person's environment(s) may be affecting the problem.

I believe building a healthy connection is essential to the therapy process and understanding the dynamics of the family system is invaluable.
As a dedicated elementary teacher I noticed many families with unmet mental health needs. As I observed their struggles, my zeal for instruction adapted from the classroom to the therapy office.

I enjoy working with children, adolescents and adults who are dealing with life issues that result in depression, anger, and an inability to function in their daily lives. I also enjoy working with couples and families. I believe that families function as a system and when one family member is out of sync, the entire family is disrupted. In my practice, I see children as young as 3 years of age. Play is the "language of the child" and Play Therapy allows children to work through their issues in a non-threatening environment.

Do you feel depressed, anxious, angry, or overwhelmed? Going through relationship problems? Experiencing trauma? Life is too short for that! My goal is to guide you through any obstacles you may be experiencing and get you to where you are finding meaning and purpose in your career, family , friendships, and all other areas of life.
Are you looking for someone who is real and authentic to talk to? It's rumored that therapy is typically a one-sided conversation that offers few chances for genuine interaction between the client and the counselor. That is not me! I am that counselor that will offer you a personal connection in order to facilitate growth and healing. My goal is to offer you support and guidance in whatever life situations you are experiencing. Starting therapy can feel overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be. I hope you call me and lets start this journey together. I can't wait to hear from you!

Asking for help can be tough. Most people are taught at a young age to be independent, strong and self-sufficient. Yet there are times when life can be overwhelming. Events or life situations may leave you feeling confused, troubled, depressed and unsure of how to make things better. It might be your intimate relationships, family , work, school or many other challenges. I use an emotional focused approach to help couples gain strength and restore intimacy in their relationships. I also use a cognitive behavioral approach to therapy that is highly effective in helping individuals with grief and loss, anger, depression, trauma and addictions.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
