I work with children, adults and families. Individual experiences as well as experiences in a family system are unique. There are times in our lives that difficulties arise and unexpected life changes can leave us with feelings of hurt, stress, grief, anxiety, depression, and more. Counseling is a powerful tool that can help us understand, cope, and move forward in ways that are productive, purposeful and meaningful. Seeking counsel is a brave and powerful choice. It often brings great comfort knowing that you are absolutely welcomed into the process of counseling and that you do not have to walk through your experiences alone.

The journey through life is uniquely our own and presents each of us with an array of distinctive experiences. I am honored to meet you right where you are on your path, provide therapeutic support and find solutions that enable you to live a healthier, more fulfilling life. Collaboratively, we will work to cultivate new coping skills, reshape relationships, identify personal strengths and overcome ineffective behavioral patterns in efforts to achieve your personal goals.

Internal Family Systems is the primary model I use, but also blended with Biblical Pneuma (body, soul, spirit) Concepts for Faith Based Counseling.
Getting you "off the couch" in both therapy and in life is my top priority. Most seek a professional after crisis or after a breaking point in his/her ability to cope. You may or may not know what is causing the chaos that is out of control in your life. Either way, I am interested in helping you see where you are with anxiety/depression and any other presenting symptoms and get a plan that gets you ACTIVE (off the couch) in your treatment instead of simply talking one hour each week. Call me with your questions!

I have been married for 14 years and have three adult stepchildren, a granddaughter and son-in-law. (Our family also includes three fur babies, a cat and two grand dogs) The spirit of family is something that has grown and valued over the years. We have found beauty in a family unit that now includes an extended family of exes and in-laws to celebrate holidays and special events. My life experiences have given me insight and perspective that allow me to make unique connections with my clients. I learned that during times when we feel defeated, it does not mean we are unable to change the outcome or quality of life in the future.

I believe the source of and solution to a problem lies within the family unit as a whole, not within merely an individual.
In a time when your hope for peace, emotional relief or relational reconciliation may be lost, I can still see the hope for you. My desire as a therapist is to help you see that hope again yourself. I believe everyone is capable of healing and restoration within his or her relationships and within his or her self. I am honored by the opportunity to serve in my role during times of great difficulty for my clients and I rejoice with them as they begin to see positive change in ways they once thought impossible.

I am extensively trained in addictions, family recovery, partner recovery, family systems and sex addiction (incl.
When someone we care for is struggling with addiction (drugs/alcohol, sex, food, etc.), it can become a very unclear path. Pain, guilt, confusion, loss of trust, and communication, all create drastic changes in relationships which can leave us feeling hopeless, fearful, and defeated. Asking for guidance is a sign of strength, not weakness or failure, which ideally brings understanding to all involved. Often multiple addictions co-exist and each requires its own unique understanding and process of recovery.

I welcome the engagement of individual and family needs on the basis of both intrinsic and extrinsic values. Considering the words of Pythagoras, "Wisdom thoroughly learned will never be forgotten." I utilize a treatment integration of philosophy, psychoanalysis, and relational psychotherapy. I am a doctorate student and analyst candidate in the school of object relations. The process of psychoanalytic therapy focuses on the "science of the unconscious" allowing yourself and relations to understand the root of symptoms and reactional patterns. "Knowledge is power" as proposed by Francis Bacon.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
