My ideal clients are women navigating infertility, pregnancy, postpartum challenges, motherhood, and major life transitions. Many come to therapy feeling overwhelmed by anxiety, depression, relationship stress, identity changes, or the emotional impact of fertility struggles and parenting young children. I provide a warm, supportive space where clients feel understood and empowered. Together, we identify patterns that keep them stuck, build on their strengths, develop practical coping skills, and create meaningful, lasting change so they can move forward with greater confidence, connection, and resilience.

The women I work with are often highly self-aware, insightful, and used to functioning at a high level - but internally, something still feels like it's missing. They may overthink, second-guess themselves, or feel disconnected from their own voice, desires, or sense of direction. What I tend to see quickly are the deeper patterns underneath - how they've adapted, where they're still seeking permission, and what parts of themselves have been set aside. I work with women to support a deeper relationship with themselves - one that allows for clarity, intuition, and genuine joy!

Andrea Johnson is real. A blend of warmth, depth, and no-nonsense, she puts it best when she explains that she gives honesty to get honesty. She never abandons the basic premise that people just need to be heard. With today's societal message that you have to be happy, the emotions of pain, hurt, sadness and disappointment have become taboo. Andrea's office is often the only space people have to dive into the truth of their situation.

My goal for my client is to find healing! I do not want to simply teach you coping skills and tools to deal with the symptoms you are experiencing because you would never have true relief and healing. I want to find the problem in order to solve the problem. I have been very successful in areas such as anxiety, depression, trauma, and ADHD to name a few. I constantly push myself to stay up-to-date on new studies, new ways, new discoveries. I am not only paying attention to new developments in mental health, but also physiological and environmental developments that would help the mind stay healthy.

I consider it an honor and privilege to bear witness to your therapeutic process. I understand that therapy can be one of the most vulnerable times in your life. Even though you may feel frightened and unsure, allow me to rest your mind at ease as I facilitate your healing journey. No matter the issue that you face, I believe in the restorative power of a safe, non-judgmental space individualized to your particular needs. You deserve to be supported and cared for, and to know that you don't have to walk your path alone.

Have you noticed yourself struggling with “the balance?” You can’t quite find that sweet spot & it has you feeling lost, confused, consumed, detached, depressed, anxious or overwhelmed? Do work demands, societal expectations, past trauma, dating challenges, family dynamics, kids, marriage, drinking water, exercising, engaging in self-care, etc each feel like something else to manage? Could you benefit from someone who is unrelated to your situation, to listen objectively & without judgement to help untangle the weave life has woven? There is likely a pattern to be uncovered.

I use EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), and psychodynamic therapies, as well as others as needed.
I love working with clients who are seeking to identify and change patterns in thought, communication, and relationships. My clients are individuals and couples who are experiencing struggles and roadblocks in how they view and interact with themselves and others. I enjoy helping people grow in awareness of what is causing their issues and learn how to effect change in their lives and relationships. I offer clients a safe place to experience and process their emotions, identify unhelpful patterns and learn healthy coping skills.

Psychodynamic Therapists
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
