Many are parents trying to help their children thrive—whether they are facing academic difficulties, struggling with behavior, or wrestling with the unique challenges of divorce, foster care and post- adoption transitions.
Life rarely unfolds the way we expect. The idea of “work-life balance” is something many of us strive for, yet often feels out of reach. We believe that instead of chasing a perfect balance, it’s about learning to create harmony—like music, with its changing tempos, highs and lows, and moments of rest.

Welcome! I am so glad you're here. Being a therapist is one of my favorite things in the world. Not because it's easy, and not because it doesn't have some really hard moments, but because it matters. You matter and your story matters. I am immensely honored to walk alongside clients in their journey to healing- it's something I'll never get over. My specialties are working with grief, depression, anxiety, and I'm working towards being certified in postpartum mental health. I love working with moms struggling with adjusting to motherhood and all the challenges it brings, and I have a heart for those walking through infertility.

Therapy can be very helpful in addressing problems you may be having in your life. If you struggle with relationship problems, decision making, depression, anxiety, self esteem, impluse control, trauma, substance abuse, grief, addiction or life transitions; I can provide a neutral non-judgmental space to explore and resolve these issues. Many people believe they should be able to solve problems on their own and seek help often waiting until the situation has grown unmanageable. However, early interventions and proactive actions tend to lesson the impact of painful experiences, allowing you to move past problems more easily and quickly.

HABLO ESPANOL! My story is a bit unique as to how I became a psychotherapist. I studied abroad in Costa Rica during college where I learned the Spanish language and where my love of adventure and exploration began. After moving to Los Angeles for several years, I decided to then move to New York City to pursue a career in music which is my first love. I was living in NYC and working for Sony Music on September 11, 2001 which changed my life dramatically. I decided to return to The University of Texas in Austin and obtained my Masters in Social Work in an effort to pursue a career in helping others which is my second love.

Adoption Therapists
Does my adopted child need therapy?
Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.

When should adoptive parents seek therapy?
Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.

Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?
Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.

What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?
A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
