I help people who are struggling to develop a strong sense of self worth. I often work with people exploring identity and self acceptance who are experiencing symptoms like high anxiety, depression, difficulty coping with stress, and intrusive negative thoughts. Some therapists focus only on the symptoms which can feel incomplete, but I listen deeply to hear what’s going on underneath to help you process the old stories and beliefs held within that are cutting you off from your true self.

I am a somatic experiencing practitioner (SEP) as well as a KAP provider, and well versed + well trained in psychedelic work.
I suspect you want to feel better and have tried a few things already. You may be feeling stuck and the old ways of doing things aren't working any more. If you're up for something different, not a cure all, but a way to open new doors for healing, growth, and more ease in yourself, Ketamine Assisted Therapy (KAP) might be a way to go.

Therapy is hard work. It is also full of humor, humanity, clinical guidance, check-ins, a-ha moments, advocacy, and a sprinkle of magic I have been told "she will meet resistance with patience, gentleness, and freedom for you to exist exactly as you are" in the therapy room. You deserve to show up exactly as you are; all forms of you are always welcome. I've found when you show up as your most authentic self, the work can really begin. Asking for help may be the first step in calming the ongoing chaos.

I'm about love, self-compassion, radical acceptance, embracing failure, trusting your innate wisdom and starting over. I fundamentally believe in every person's ability to recover from trauma, addiction and life, in general. Experience has taught me that no one is really avoiding anything. When people accuse you of not dealing with something, what they are really saying is you aren't dealing with it the way they want you to. From my perspective, if you wake up every morning and breathe in and out all day long, you're dealing with your stuff. A tiny bit of intention is all it takes to begin healing.

You are in a challenging new season of your life right now. You feel overwhelmed with responsibilities, things you need to do, people you need to reach out to. You are doing so much for so many others & struggling to make room for yourself. Life can be hard sometimes especially when we are going through major life transitions like the birth of a new baby, changing careers, breakup/divorce, or a big move. I know because I've been there.

The practice is trauma informed, grounded in Jean Baker Miller's body of work with the Relational Cultural Theory Model and I am a Somatic Expereincing Practitioner .
You can expect from Shannyn that your “entire self” is welcomed into a space and she will work somatically with what you bring to unpack, patterns to ease out of and the wounded places to be respected, handled with care, and skillful clinical attention and presence provided. Shannyn works from a vast framework incorporating traditional clinical practices as well as somatic experiencing, mindfulness and intersectional/social justice models. Addressing the impact of oppression a person experiences throughout life is also central to healing. It is in the mind AND body that dis.ease occurs and takes hold.

Are you feeling stuck and unsure of where to turn next? Life can be difficult to navigate through its ups and downs. Many times individuals are simply lacking specific tools to be able to navigate through the turbulence. Sometimes life has been so overwhelming for so long that it seems impossible to even begin. At any of these points in your journey, it helps to know that you aren't alone and that many have traveled similar paths before you.

It is entirely normal to feel uncertain about seeking therapy. Everyone has their reasons, and yours may be different from others. Perhaps you are seeking treatment to gain the skills to live a healthier, happier, more balanced life or to overcome depression and regain your hope and energy. You may be looking to put an end to the same arguments with your partner or find healthier ways to cope with stress instead of overeating. You may feel down and creatively blocked or struggling spiritually due to conflicting beliefs. Whatever your reason, know that it is valid and deserving of attention.

How does somatic therapy work?
Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.
Is EMDR a somatic therapy?
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.
Is somatic therapy evidence-based?
Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.
What is somatic trauma therapy?
Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
