Confused? Stuck? Lost? Broken? If what you are trying isn’t working, I would love to work with you to promote change. I see people ages 3 to 103 for struggles in their family relationships, medical trauma, previous abuse, self harm, behavior difficulties, and whatever else comes up along the way. I’m a registered play therapist with years of experience in trauma of all sorts, including medical trauma. Additionally I focused my research in graduate school on siblings of chronically ill children as they often by necessity have less time with their parents which can have a variety of outcomes similar to chronic trauma.

As human beings, our experiences are unique to us. We experience and view the world from our lens, which impacts how we perceive ourselves and others. Unfortunately, because we are all unique, people around us also develop perceptions about us which may not be an accurate representation of who we are or our true intentions. Sometimes, our perceptions lead to miscommunication and misconceptions; thereby impacting our ability to connect and develop healthy relationships. Typically, perceptions are based on our experiences and our experiences are not always favorable or pleasant.

During my training in play therapy, I have worked with many children experiencing behavioral problems, divorce, depression, anxiety, grief, abuse, adoption, relational problems with peers and siblings, academic issues, trauma, developmental delays, aggression, abandonment, and disruptive behavior.
As a parent, it can be difficult to know what to do when your child or adolescent is experiencing emotional or behavioral difficulties. You may often feel helpless and isolated. I can help. I have had extensive training in the field of play therapy, a developmentally appropriate approach to working with children struggling with a variety of issues. Throughout this process, your child will experience a warm, safe, and accepting environment where these issues can be worked out. I will also work to help you understand your child more and provide you with ways to feel more empowered.

You're carrying more than most people know. The anxiety that won't quit. The quiet shame. The relational patterns you keep repeating no matter how aware you are of them. Old wounds have a way of running the show long after you think they should. Something happened, or finally caught up with you, and you're realizing you can't just push through it anymore. You're not looking for coping tools or psychoeducation. You want to actually get to the root.

I have extensive history working working in foster/ adoption.
New spots open! Resiliency is our ability to face obstacles and still find a sense of peace within ourselves. Life can be challenging, and it’s okay to ask for support in navigating those struggles I am passionate about walking alongside children, adolescents, and adults as they find their voice and build strength through adversity. I view therapy as a collaborative process, where the role of the family is just as vital as the individual’s journey. With extensive experience supporting those who have faced trauma, attachment challenges, anxiety, depression & behavioral concerns I strive to create a compassionate space for healing

Adoption Therapists
Does my adopted child need therapy?
Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.

When should adoptive parents seek therapy?
Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.

Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?
Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.

What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?
A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
