Bruised Not Broken Therapy was born from the lack of Afrocentric-based psychotherapy that allowed people of color to embrace their life journey through the context of color. HIV, substance abuse, mental health, and the denial of the everyday experience of being a person of color continue to plague communities of color, as we still have yet to discuss these experiences.

As a therapist, my role is to guide you to achieving your personal treatment goals to live a happy & fulfilling life. I specialize in trauma and use EMDR therapy for treatment. I also have experience working with individuals experiencing anxiety, depression, life changes & transitions such as divorce, school/job changes, relocations, & friendship/relationship challenges. I have been in practice for over 30 years. I specialize in working with adolescent females, and LGBTQIA-identified clients and their families who are often times involved in the juvenile justice system and child welfare. I also work with female and LGBTQIA military personnel and veterans. Working with these systems has afforded me the opportunity to build my skills so that I am very proficient in many areas, such as trauma and PTSD, adoption, permanency, military personnel, and addiction concerns. I work from a strength-based, solution-focused perspective and utilize cognitive behavioral therapy and experiential treatment models.

Recognizing a multitude of challenges from relationship conflicts, anxiety, depression, addiction, and grief to the more complex trauma based wounds, Kelly strives to foster healing through inner child work and self compassion. Kelly assists you in uncovering your authentic self that has been there all along but buried through protective strategies from wounding. Kelly aims to facilitate positive growth and change through this unveiling as you reparent your wounded inner children.

There are so many effective modalities to treat and unburden pain. In the end, it just boils down to being together in our vulnerability that heals. We need each other, because this world is difficult. Trauma can impact us in such an intense way that we feel like separating ourselves. I see therapy as respite. It’s where you find yourself with a neutral partner on your journey. I strive to be someone who values your success, and listens when you’re hurting. It takes courage to share embarrassing secrets, pains, and struggles. Parts that feel better hidden and protected have a space to be themselves here and to release.
