I work with individuals experiencing a wide range of challenges, including dating, relationships, trauma, violence and assault, PTSD, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, self-harm, and sexuality or gender identity diversity. My background includes victim advocacy and outreach, clinical crisis counseling, animal assisted therapy, and human sexuality education. I am a Licensed Counselor and EMDR Certified with over 25 years of experience with a broad range of concerns and can guide and support your journey through skilled, evidenced-based techniques. I am a compassionate listener and my main goal is to help you find your solid center and emotional regulation and balance. I am intuitively skilled at successfully cutting through confusing dynamics and reactivity to identify core issues that haven't been resolved through other therapies.

Therapy should provide a safe, nonjudgmental relationship through which to explore those parts of you that may make you feel ashamed or afraid, to develop meaningful insights, and to discover your strengths. I have extensive experience working with people seeking to overcome traumatic life events - sexual violations, abuse, neglect, extreme acts of violence - but have found that, in the end, it can sometimes be the seemingly small, overlooked wounds that take longest to heal. No matter how stuck and hopeless you may feel, you have the power to take control and embrace the person you'd like to be.

I see therapy as an interactive journey toward achieving set goals. I believe in providing support for individuals, children, couples, and families through their journeys as a co-pilot. We a systems approach, to work together to recognize patterns in thoughts, feelings, behaviors, and relationships that have developed through your unique experiences. Providing support with issues of grief, depression, anxiety, physical and emotional abuse, divorce, parenting, adjustment, spiritual, and relationship concerns is a priority.

I believe counseling is a partnership in which we work together in developing and implementing a plan to reach the clients treatment goals. Each client is unique and different, and I adjust according to the clients needs. I work well with clients who are ready to do the work to heal and grow. The client and I are active throughout the counseling process. I have found that this process is a journey towards healing and thriving in all areas of life.

I have extensive experience with mood disorders, trauma and addictions and work with all ages. I am trained in EMDR and use that technique with both children and adults if appropriate. My clients often state when they first spoke to me they felt immediately at ease and did not feel judged. I am able to assist my clients in seeing patterns in their life story and work to identify and change core beliefs such as "I'm not good enough", "I'm defective" or "I cannot trust others."

I am accepting new clients as of 4/15/2024. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 30 years of experience, specializing in working with the adult and senior population. I have a deep understanding of individuals and families facing various difficulties, including depression, anxiety, trauma, mental illness, loss, and grief, hospice, later life out of home moves and adjustments, independent and assisted living transitions (elder life), domestic violence, chronic and terminal illness.

I strive to provide psychotherapy, psychological consultations, and clinical assessment that promote well-being, personal growth, increase in skills/knowledge base, and effectiveness for clients.

My specialty is working with adults and teens with emotional dysregulation, self-harming behaviors and difficulty with impulsive, destructive and self-destructive behavior. I also treat trauma both in adolescents and in adults. I offer fully adherent DBT. Adherent Dialectical Behavior Therapy has the most evidence showing it to be an effective treatment for suicidal people and people with Borderline Personality Disorder and BPD traits. At this current time we are the only practice in the Tallahassee area offering full protocol, adherent DBT which means you get the treatment that works best to help you or your teen stop suffering.

Dr. Catherine Bukovitz is a licensed doctor in the medical field and a Licensed Mental Health Counselor in the State of Florida. She is nationally board-certified and also holds a certification as an Addiction Specialist. Dr. Catherine works with adults, and she is caring and non-judgmental while being insightful and solution-focused in working with trauma, depression, anxiety, grief, relationships, and addictions.
