Do you feel life is restricting you from who you really want to be for yourself, your partner and/or your family? My primary goal in therapy is to help enhance your ability to make choices. Our ability to notice our cycles of interaction in our relationships can help us build trust in ourselves and enhance our commitments to ourselves and our loved ones. This, in turn, allows our choices to become "building blocks" toward lasting joy for each relationship creation of our choice.

As a health psychologist, I support adults and families coping with the effects of illness and injury. Whether you'd like to make changes to improve a chronic condition like diabetes, IBS, or heart disease, are struggling to adapt to a 'new normal' after a life-changing health event, or feel like symptoms are making the rest of your life take a back seat, you deserve support. Health Psychology is the practice of learning to maintain emotional resilience, reduce the impact of symptoms, and feel more in charge of your health, regardless of your diagnosis.

I specialize in reducing and eliminating symptoms of: PTSD, Anxiety, Depression, ADHD, OCD, Learning disorders, Traumatic Brain Injuries, Addictions, and Pain.
In my practice I blend together the art and science of psychotherapy with a strong focus on global change. My intention is to help you thrive. I use a comprehensive approach with a strong mind-body focus and integrate psychoanalysis with neuroscience. This helps to interpret properly and work more efficiently toward transforming maladaptive mechanisms that stifle your life. Often I use Neurofeedback, Biofeedback, and Photobiomodulation and work directly and noninvasively with the brain and the nervous system. This helps you self-regulate and embody change quicker, with less distress. In most cases the results are permanent.

Each of us passes through struggles that are difficult to cope with. In working together to form a therapeutic relationship we can become healthier and more able to react more skillfully to the challenges that present themselves. My work with children, adolescents, adults, couples and families is based off a strong clinical foundation and woven together with compassion, respect and caring. By resolving some of our issues we can become balanced and find improved overall health (mentally, physically, spiritually, financially, emotionally).

Many clients are drawn to my unique style of work because talk therapy isn’t delving deep enough into the chronic pain they hold, the painful emotions they feel, or the spinning thoughts that rule their life. Many crave a nourishment from their lives they’ve lost touch with in the busy-ness, trapped in people pleasing, poor boundaries and unresolved old pain. Many remember they once felt vibrant and connected to themselves, and perhaps something greater. Are you ready to get back?

I work with clients of all ages experiencing difficult life transitions, or carrying troubling past traumas. These struggles often result in symptoms of depression, anxiety, panic, and coping through substance abuse. Individuals, couples, and families in therapeutic collaboration with me can expect to cultivate more self-awareness, and capacity for compassion. We’ll frame current stressors in the context of the larger systems they operate in, and evaluate your existing coping strategies to separate what's working for you from what's not. Together, we'll shine a light on patterns of thinking and behavior that keep you feeling stuck.

NOTE: Currently, my practice is limited to seeing individuals on Saturdays only. I look forward helping you find more effective ways of dealing with the conflicts and changes of everyday life. If you struggle with unhealthy coping strategies such as dependency on substances/behaviors, seem to repeat the same self-defeating patterns in relationships, have difficulty managing intense, overwhelming feelings or often feel misunderstood while trying to communicate, I can help you alter underlying patterns and develop tools that lead to enduring change.

Eight years ago, I began working with professional athletes and traumatic brain injuries. This opened a huge door for me to understanding that there are many un-diagnosed brain injuries in the US resulting not just from professional sports, but car accidents, bicycle accidents, falls, and a wide assortment of ways in which children, adolescents, and adults receive a blow to the head. Our brains are much more fragile than previously understood. Be aware of chronic pain, chronic fatigue, constant headaches, brain fog, dizziness, loss of balance, poor memory, sensitivity to light/sound, poor sleep patterns, and depression & anxiety.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Therapists

When should someone seek treatment for a traumatic brain injury?

People should seek a diagnosis and treatment after a head injury, especially if they were unconscious, and an early diagnosis can lead to a better recovery. Signs of a concussion include headaches, nausea or vomiting, exhaustion, dizziness, vision problems, sensitivity to light and sound, problems with attention and memory, brain fog, unusual irritability or sadness, and unusual sleep patterns.

What’s the most common treatment for a traumatic brain injury?

Treatment for a traumatic brain injury will be different depending on the severity of the problem. For mild injuries, treatment may involve rest and over-the-counter pain or headache medication. For moderate or severe injuries, treatment may involve stabilization, medication, and rehabilitative therapies such as physical therapy, occupational therapy, speech therapy, cognitive therapy, and counseling.

How long does it take to recover from traumatic brain injury?

The recovery time for a traumatic brain injury depends on the individual and the severity and nature of the injury; the length of time spent unconscious is often an indicator of severity. Recovery time for mild injuries may be a week or two while recovery time for more severe injuries may be six months to two years. Research suggests that the vast majority of recovery occurs in the first two years after an injury; recovery after that time frame is less certain.

What if a traumatic brain injury is left untreated?

If a traumatic brain injury is left untreated, it can lead to long-term physical and mental health problems. Physical problems may include dizziness, headaches, vision, healing, or speech loss, and an elevated risk of dementia. Psychological problems may include impairments of memory, judgment, and decision-making, depression, aggression, poor impulse control, and personality changes.
