I am an LPCC independently licensed therapist specializing in treating trauma in all age groups. As an Afrolatina my identity is an integral part of how I show up in the world including in my work. I strive to uplift my clients in their own power and identities as well. I have made it my goal to apply my training and experience to working with marginalized communities and their families.

As a Clinical Mental Health Counselor and Registered Art Therapist, I work with clients at all ages and stages of life. I take a client-centered approach and follow the needs of each individual depending on whether they prefer talk therapy, art therapy or a combination. Majority of my experience includes working with clients that struggle with anxiety, depression, attachment issues, family conflict, trauma and abuse/neglect. I aim to create a safe space to build trust and empower self growth in my clients. Therapy has been healing in my own life and I hope to provide support for others struggling with their mental health.

Many times in our lives we are driven by pain from past events. Much of our experience has been working alongside those who are faced with issues of anger, general and acute stress, PTSD, anxiety, and depression; both youth and adults. I specialize in working with survivors of sexual trauma and folks who want to work through family of origin conflicts and relationship issues. Are you struggling to overcome the pain of childhood abuse? Did you feel alone and afraid as a child? Do you feel like your family did not understand you or support you? I have special interest and expertise in couple therapy and psychotherapy and have extensive training and experience in both. I practice trauma-informed therapy, including EMDR and other trauma-clearing techniques. I incorporate yoga, meditation, deep relaxation, visualization and other mind/body techniques. I customize my approach to the unique needs of each client. My work is informed by my own healing journey.

We often have a sense that in some ways, somehow we have been holding back. The barriers hidden behind cost us in our capacity for intimacy, spontaneity, and precious space for the heart's need to express and to be seen. They are usually constructed for very good reasons; to avoid painful experiences and vulnerability. But more often than not, carry on decades beyond when the threatening events have past. Defenses, beliefs, and the wounds that shut us down developed around people. The healing can happen when we feel safety again. Not surprisingly, this needs to happen with people too.

You know the road to peace lies both in healing the past, and also moving forward. Addressing trauma feels empowering but overwhelming. Moving forward feels exciting, but potentially superficial. You want a therapist who can do both: heal the past, and take charge of the future. But there's another issue- you don't know which therapist to pick. I have 32 years experience treating children, adults and couples and specialize in the skilled, compassionate healing of anxiety, depression and PTSD. I'm the author of four books and teach CBT at universities and training centers worldwide, including the University of New Mexico, the National Institute of Mental Health and Neuroscience in Bangalore, India, Mexico City’s Universidad Hebraica, and the Zentrum fur Psychotherapie in Stuttgart, Germany.
