Throughout our lives we may encounter painful, traumatic, or difficult scenarios that leave us feeling hopeless or stuck. I believe every person has a resiliency and strength to pull from to achieve an enjoyable and fulfilling life. My background includes addressing struggles related to anxiety, depression, PTSD, oppositional defiant disorder, bipolar disorder, adjustment difficulties, trauma, and more.

My entire adult life I have worked with children and their families as a professional teacher and now a therapist. I easily relate to all ages - children, adolescents, teens, and adults. I understand how important working with families and schools can be for the mental health of the child. As a teacher for over 20 years, I understand burnout, the inner-workings of schools, and the importance of the personnels' mental health and self care. Plus, over 16 years experience with child-rearing, elderly parental care, end of life choices, adult social services, and grief and bereavement therapies for children and adults.

My specialty is assisting you to cope with stressors in life. Working together, I will partner with you to eliminate barriers to reaching your full potential. I believe that healing and growth are possible through therapeutic connection. I primarily provide therapy for depression, anxiety, trauma, grief, loss, and assistance with coping through divorce or separation. In addition, I specialize in working with you to create more fulfilling relationships.

The struggle is real- for all of us. I am committed to helping a person grow toward improved insights and coping skills to resolve their problems and related emotions, in a non-judgmental and supportive manner. My goal is for one to learn more about themselves and to function at a higher level in the whole-person dimensions of their life. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and a Licensed Addiction Counselor (LAC) with certifications from NAADAC (National Association of Alcoholism and Drug Addiction Counselors) as a Masters level Addiction Counselor. I have been trained in many modules including; Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Seeking Safety, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE). I am a trained EMDR specialist and facilitate trauma therapy.

I am committed to helping clients move through a variety of challenges by building self-awareness and supporting the practice of new actions. I provide integrated client solution focused therapy. I am trained in trauma informed interventions, am sensitive to a client's attachment style and work to empower clients to achieve their goals. I enjoy working with individuals, couples and groups. I have a special interest in teaching of behavioral management, mindfulness, somatic experiencing, EMDR, emotional regulation, and distress tolerance. Cognitive behavioral resources and tools are the foundation of all my work.

I work collaboratively with my clients to support them in reaching their specific goals in life. Every person is unique and will experience an individualized approach that is best suited to their needs and preferences. By treating each person as a unique individual I respect the person's autonomy and am able to support the person's own capacities for change and healing. I am also pragmatic in my approach which means I use what works. I am flexible in how I approach treatment. This flexibility extends to how I provide counseling as well. I am available evenings, in person as well as by telehealth.

I was born and raised in southeastern Montana, lived in Seattle for fifteen years, and returned to be closer to family. I am a survivor of trauma, have worked as a special education teacher in Seattle for twelve years, and have worked as a Licensed Psychotherapist and Licensed Addictions Counselor in Billings since 2004. My passions are Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), people with special needs, grief/loss, the elderly, veterans, and helping people in crisis in general. I understand how addiction impacts people in crises. I specialize in improving communication. I inform my practice with brain research. Hope is everything.

Joleena specializes in helping couples working through betrayal and addiction of all kinds.
